Former West Point Cadet Caleb Suh Faces Up to 2 Years in Prison After Pleading Guilty to Drugging Girlfriend and Forcing Her to Take Abortion Pills

Former army cadet Caleb T. Suh, one of the sons of US Department of Veterans Affairs Chief of Staff Dr. Ryung Suh, has pleaded guilty to felony assault after admitting that he drugged his then-girlfriend and secretly administered abortion pills to her without her consent.

According to court documents and a civil lawsuit, the incident happened in 2022 when the pair were dating after meeting as cadets at the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2020.

The woman, identified in court filings as Ms. Doe, reportedly discovered she was pregnant in 2022 and wanted to continue the pregnancy. However, the lawsuit alleged that Suh threatened to kill himself if she refused to have an abortion.

Prosecutors and the civil complaint said Suh later obtained abortion medication by using the woman’s identity to open an account with an online pharmacy. He allegedly ordered the drugs in her name and arranged for them to be delivered to West Point.

He also admitted obtaining Xanax through a friend.

In his guilty plea, Suh stated: “I also obtained Xanax through a friend,”

“My intent was to use the Xanax to unwittingly sedate my girlfriend so that I could then administer the abortion pills, which I had obtained via the online pharmacy.”

The lawsuit alleged that Suh eventually prepared a drink he described as a special pregnancy protein powder shake. However, the smoothie reportedly contained Xanax and promethazine, sedating medications.

The woman, who was also a cadet at the time, reportedly became extremely drowsy after drinking it. Despite finding the drink unpleasant, she alleged that Suh held the bottle against her lips and forced her to finish it.

According to the court filings, she later began drifting in and out of consciousness and recalled Suh touching her vagina.

She also reportedly remembered finding two pills in her mouth and spitting them out, but Suh allegedly placed them back inside.

“Eat this…… It’s good for you.” Suh urged her.

When she regained consciousness, the woman reportedly noticed that she was bleeding and feared she had suffered a miscarriage.

She called 911 and was taken for medical attention, where doctors confirmed that she had lost the pregnancy. She subsequently underwent a dilation and curettage (D&C) procedure to remove the remaining pregnancy tissue.

The lawsuit further alleged that while the woman was receiving medical care, Suh ignored her calls and continued seeking advice on an online pharmacy forum about what might happen if doctors discovered the remaining pills in her vagina.

Messages he allegedly sent to the online pharmacy included the question: “Will I feel the pills in my vaginia?”

The pair reportedly separated shortly after the incident.

Despite the allegations, Suh continued his education and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in 2024, where he studied emergency medicine. He subsequently enrolled in a master’s programme at Columbia University in Manhattan, according to court documents.

Suh was charged in Manhattan Federal Court and pleaded guilty to felony assault in June. He is represented by attorney Thomas Kenniff, who previously defended Daniel Penny in the Manhattan subway death case.

Speaking about the ordeal, the woman’s lawyer, Russell Kornblith, said:

“As a parent it is difficult not to be incredibly emotionally drained by thinking about what our client has experienced both by the loss of a pregnancy she intended to keep and being robbed of autonomy over her own body.”

Suh is currently awaiting sentencing. He recently requested that his sentencing be postponed until January so he could complete his semester without interruption. The request was granted, while prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence.
