A wanted bandit has been captured during a security operation in a forest in Delta State.

The suspect, who identified himself as Abubakar Usman, was arrested following a coordinated operation led by the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad after the rescue of a kidnapped woman.

In a video shared by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, the suspect admitted that he and his gang initially demanded ₦100 million ransom from their victim’s family but eventually received ₦1 million.

According to Abubakar, the kidnapping gang consists of three members.

When questioned about who sponsors their operations, he responded:

“Alhaji, na Abuja he dey.”

The rescued victim, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, identified Abubakar as one of the kidnappers who allegedly boasted about killing a soldier during her captivity.

She disclosed that she was abducted last Thursday.

Sharing details of the operation, Harrison Gwamnishu wrote:

“WANTED BANDIT ABUBAKAR USMAN CAPTURED IN DELTA FOREST.

Yesterday, I was informed about the abduction of Mrs. Blessing Chiedu, a native of Umunede Kingdom, who was kidnapped on 2nd July, 2026, along the Ani-Ifekide Farm Road, Ubulu-Uku. Her kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦100 million from her family.

Immediately after receiving the information, I escalated the matter, and the Delta State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Asaba, led by CSP Osakpolor, swung into action.

Using our Hydra Tech Surveillance System, a coordinated rescue operation was launched, and yesterday, Mrs. Blessing Chiedu was successfully rescued alive and unharmed along the Ubulu-Unor/Ashama Road.

Following her rescue, we immediately launched a manhunt for the fleeing kidnappers. The operation continued throughout the night until approximately 6:45 a.m. today, when our surveillance system located the gang’s hideout in the Ogwashi-Uku/Adonta Forest.

A gun battle ensued, during which our combined team overpowered the criminals. One of the most wanted suspects, Abubakar Usman, was successfully captured, while other members of the gang escaped into the forest with their firearm.

Investigations reveal that Abubakar Usman and his gang have been responsible for several kidnapping operations across Igbodo, Umunede, and surrounding communities, where they have extorted millions of naira in ransom from innocent families.

Police have launched an international manhunt for a 45-year-old man, Ndodana Tshuma, also known as Mark, after his wife and two daughters were found dead at their £1.3 million home in Bedford, England.

According to investigators, Tshuma is believed to have fled the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe just two days before the bodies of his wife, Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, five, were discovered at the family home.

Authorities said CCTV footage captured Tshuma at Heathrow Airport on Saturday. He was reportedly dressed in black with a blue sweater and an Apple Watch while carrying bottles of Coca-Cola and water, holding a boarding pass, and pushing a suitcase through an airport e-gate.

Detective Inspector Lee Martin, the senior investigating officer, appealed directly to Tshuma to surrender to authorities.

“We have been carrying out numerous lines of enquiry as part of this fast-paced, complex investigation. We know that Mark Tshuma left the country on Saturday and is now believed to be in Zimbabwe.

“We are urgently working to find and apprehend him, and would appeal to him directly to hand himself in.

“Mark, unthinkable harm has been caused to those around you, and this has left your relatives and friends utterly devastated. Criminal investigation knows no borders. We are actively working with national and international agencies to pursue every available line of enquiry to track you down.

“Please do the right thing, come forward and hand yourself in to local authorities.

“Our thoughts are still very much with Zandile, Natalie and Nala, as well as all of those who loved and knew them, at this extremely difficult time.”

According to reports, Zandile had been in the process of divorcing her husband before the tragedy. She had reportedly arranged for their luxury home to be valued ahead of plans to sell it as the couple prepared to go their separate ways.

Friends of the family claimed that the marriage had broken down and alleged that Tshuma had struggled to accept the separation.

One friend said:

“They had been having marriage problems for quite a while. Their relationship had broken down and Zandile had had enough.

“She was a great mother and wife and a lot of the problems were down to Mark’s controlling behaviour.

“She’d told us that they’d had the house valued and had decided to separate. She wanted to start a new life with the kids.”

Another friend added:

“The marriage was over and Zandile wanted to move on without Mark. She was a very clever woman who worked in IT and was more than capable of creating a new life for herself with the girls.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking what’s happened and we are all devastated. Zandile was looking forward to the future and we’ll all miss her terribly.”

Reports also indicate that the couple attended one of their children’s school sports day together on the Friday, just one day before Tshuma allegedly left the UK.

Natalie attended the prestigious Bedford Girls’ School, while Nala is believed to have been a pupil at Pilgrims Pre-Preparatory School.

Zandile was an accomplished financial crime specialist and Associate Director with extensive experience in fraud investigations and anti-money laundering. She previously worked for major organisations including Barclays and KPMG and also served as vice chair of the Female Fraud Forum.

Meanwhile, Tshuma, a senior IT manager, studied Management Information Systems in Zimbabwe before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Plymouth and later completing a diploma in Business Systems Analysis and Design at City St George’s, University of London. He described himself professionally as a results-oriented and energetic IT leader.

Bedfordshire Police said the investigation remains ongoing.

Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy said:

“This is a deeply distressing incident in which a mother and her two children are believed to have been murdered.

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with all those affected.

“This is the early stages of what is an incredibly complex investigation. We are committing all necessary resources to establish exactly what has happened and to find the person responsible.

“As a result of enquiries undertaken so far, we have identified a suspect, who was known to all three victims, and who we believe has since left the country.”

A video has gone viral on social media showing the moment President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) appeared to recite the wrong version of Nigeria’s national anthem during the opening ceremony of an FEC meeting.

The clip, shared by AIT News, has generated widespread reactions online.

In the video, the anthem being played was “Nigeria, We Hail Thee,” Nigeria’s reinstated national anthem. However, President Tinubu and several members of his cabinet appeared to sing the lyrics of the former anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots,” instead.

President Tinubu signed the bill restoring “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” as the country’s official national anthem in May 2024, replacing “Arise, O Compatriots.”

A man is fighting for his life after he was brutally mauled by a lion in Garajiya village, Bhavnagar district, Gujarat, India.

The terrifying incident, which occurred on July 6, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media.

According to reports, the victim, identified as Kalubhai Boghabhai Gamara, was attacked after the lion suddenly pounced on him and grabbed his leg.

The footage shows Kalubhai covered in blood as he struggled to survive the attack while eyewitnesses desperately tried to intervene.

In the video, several bystanders can be seen throwing stones at the lion in an effort to scare it away. Moments later, the animal retreated back into the nearby forest, allowing rescuers to reach the injured man.

Kalubhai was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries sustained during the attack.

The circumstances surrounding the lion encounter have not yet been disclosed.

A 29-year-old man has been found guilty of manslaughter after his girlfriend died while he claimed he was helping her with an intensive weight-loss routine.

The High Court jury, in a majority 5–2 verdict on Friday, acquitted Ng Ka-sing of murder but unanimously found him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter over the death of his 30-year-old girlfriend, Yip Tsz-ching.

The tragic incident occurred four years ago at the couple’s 700-square-foot apartment in Galore Garden, Hung Shui Kiu.

During the trial, Ng maintained that he did not intend to kill Yip, insisting that her death was accidental and occurred while he was beating her as part of an extreme diet and fitness regimen aimed at helping her lose weight.

After hearing the evidence, the jury rejected the murder charge but concluded that Ng was criminally responsible for her death by convicting him of manslaughter.

Presiding judge, Mrs Justice Judianna Barnes, said the verdict indicated the jury accepted that Ng’s account may have been truthful that the death was not intentional but resulted from his actions during the weight-loss routine.

The judge also noted that Ng’s risk of committing a similar offence again appeared to be “extremely low.” However, she said the court would require additional information regarding his character before determining an appropriate sentence.

The case has been adjourned until Monday, when the court is expected to hear mitigation submissions before sentencing.

The media centre of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sparked reactions on social media after sharing an AI-generated image of First Lady Remi Tinubu frying akara.

A woman has become the first woman in Indonesia’s Aceh province to be publicly caned after being convicted under the region’s Sharia law over an incident involving a man during a TikTok livestream.

Images from the punishment show the woman crying out in pain as she was caned by a masked Sharia police officer before a crowd of onlookers.

According to reports, she was sentenced to 21 lashes after being found guilty under Aceh’s Islamic law.

During the punishment, the woman reportedly lost consciousness after the flogging became too much for her. Officials paused the caning and attended to her after she fainted.

It remains unclear how many of the 21 lashes had been carried out before she collapsed.

Dozens of people gathered to witness the public punishment, with some spectators reportedly urging the officers carrying out the sentence to “whip stronger.”

Aceh is the only province in Indonesia that enforces Sharia law, where certain offences can result in public caning as a form of punishment.

An 11-year-old boy, identified as Avory Woolery, has been praised as a hero after fearlessly diving into a swimming pool to rescue a man who was found unconscious underwater.

The incident occurred at an apartment complex pool in Lexington at around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1.

According to Avory, he noticed the man lying unconscious beneath the water while others at the pool appeared unsure of what to do.

Recalling the dramatic rescue, he said:

“I was like, somebody’s gotta do something. No one was doing anything, so I put on my goggles. I went underwater. I grabbed him up.”

He added:

“There was no way that I was going to let another man die today. He’s a human being. He should be treated as such.”

After Avory pulled the man to the surface, another person at the pool helped drag the victim onto the pool deck.

The boy said the man’s friend immediately began performing CPR while others called emergency services.

“His friend, I believe, put him on the floor and started doing CPR on him to try and save him the best he could, until somebody called 911,” Woolery recalled.

The Lexington Fire Department said the man was transported to a hospital in serious condition but did not release further details about his injuries.

As of Friday, July 3, his condition had not been publicly updated.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stirred reactions on social media after playfully referring to his wife, First Lady Remi Tinubu, as “Iya Alakara” (Mama Akara Seller) during a public event.

The President made the remark on Thursday, July 2, while speaking at the Presidential Press Corps Dinner held at the State House in Abuja.

A 69-year-old woman has been rescued alive after spending three days trapped beneath the rubble of a building that collapsed during the devastating earthquake in Venezuela.

The survivor, identified as Marlene Santana, was pulled from the debris after rescue teams, assisted by a sniffer dog, located her beneath the remains of the four-storey building.

Shortly after being rescued, Marlene reportedly asked for a Coca-Cola.

Speaking from her hospital bed, she recounted the ordeal, saying:

“They brought me water through one of those little hoses.

“It was the most delicious water in the world.

“They asked me what else I wanted. I told them a Pepsi-Cola, a Coca-Cola.

“But honestly, I didn’t mean it as something I truly needed at that moment – I had just already had that water.

“When I raised my hand and felt around, it was a very tight space. I kept touching the sides.

“I couldn’t tell if it was a wall or wood. I couldn’t make it out because there was no light, nothing at all.”

Doctors said Marlene sustained a head injury but survived the collapse despite spending three days trapped beneath the wreckage.

She said she believes she was trapped in what appeared to be the kitchen area of the building.

Marlene also revealed that her husband was inside the house when it collapsed, but she has not received any information about his whereabouts.

She added:

“I told them: I can’t go on any more, because I’m badly injured underneath, my back. I can’t.

“They said to me, ‘Marlene, make one more effort.’”

“There were moments when I thought I wasn’t going to make it out, because I felt like I was running out of air.”

Expressing concern for her loved ones, she said:

“My daughter lived on the second floor. I don’t know anything about her.

“I don’t know anything about my husband. I don’t know anything about my sister.”

Rescue efforts continue in affected areas as authorities search for more survivors following the devastating earthquake.
