Missing Texas Woman Found Living in Scottish Highlands Forest With Self-Proclaimed African Tribe

The mystery surrounding Kaura Taylor, a Texas woman who had been missing for months, has taken an unexpected turn after she was discovered living with a self-proclaimed “African tribe” in the Scottish Highlands.

Taylor, who now goes by the name Asnat Lady Safi of Atehene, has reportedly been staying in a forest settlement near Jedburgh, Scotland, called the “Kingdom of Kubala.” There, she serves as handmaiden to Queen Nandi, wife of the group’s leader.

Her family, however, fears she has been manipulated by the group’s leaders — Kofi Offeh, a Ghanaian opera singer who calls himself King Atehene, and his wife Jean Gasho, known as Queen Nandi. The couple, who have seven children, claim their community descends from a lost Hebrew tribe reclaiming land allegedly taken from their ancestors over 400 years ago.

Taylor, a single mother, had left Texas on May 25 on a six-month tourist visa to the UK. Before disappearing, she left behind a cryptic note saying she and her daughter “had to get out and explore a little bit.”

Her family later discovered she had first connected with the so-called kingdom in 2023 through a Facebook group. In response to the concerns, Taylor defended her decision, denying she was missing and instead accusing her family of abuse:

She wrote: “Yes, I’m very happy with my King and Queen. I was never missing. I fled a very abusive, toxic family who abused me sexually since I was a child! So you don’t go ‘missing’ to your abusers.”
