I could hardly sleep, I was so stressed on how I would afford to get their milk- Single mother of Twins laments over high cost of living

A single mother of twins living in Texas, USA, has shared her struggles with the high cost of baby essentials, particularly baby formula.

The 22-year-old nail technician revealed that she had already spent $20 on diapers and wipes for her babies but still needed to buy milk, which she couldn’t afford.

In a TikTok video, she expressed her stress and nervousness about buying other things her twins needed. Speaking to Newsweek, she said, “I could hardly sleep that night because I was stressed about how I would afford their milk the next day.”

The video showed her at a store, where it took 7 minutes for the cashier to count out the $4 in pennies she had saved to purchase milk and bananas for her 16-month-old babies. 

She added: “I didn’t want to bother anyone for money, so I decided to use the pennies I had been saving for hard times. 

“The coin exchange was too far away, and I didn’t have a car at the time. So I had to go to the store with all I had. 

“In the moment I knew that I had to make sure my kids ate. I don’t like stealing, so I’d rather pinch pennies before stealing” she explained. “With the rise of inflation forcing many other Americans to live life paycheck to paycheck, I thought it would be relatable content.”

She added that with inflation pushing many Americans to live paycheck to paycheck, she thought her situation would resonate with others. 

In the video, she also pleaded for financial help while explaining to the cashier that she would pay the rest of the balance with her card.
