Top Mexican Journalist Carjacked at Gunpoint During Live TV Broadcast

A top Mexican journalist, Fernando Vargas, was reportedly carjacked at gunpoint while live on television.

The shocking incident happened during a live interview on the sports programme “Bla, Bla, Bla Deportivo” aired on Mexican sports station Activo Deportes.

According to reports, Vargas had parked his vehicle at a gas station in Morelos when an armed man suddenly opened the driver’s side door and confronted him.

During the livestream, Vargas was seen stepping out of the vehicle before the broadcast abruptly went blank. Moments before the feed cut off, the journalist could be heard repeatedly saying, “Calm down, calm down.”

The audio reportedly captured the suspect cocking his weapon before demanding Vargas hand over his belongings.

“The key, quick. Key, phones and wallets, quick,” the robber allegedly shouted in Spanish.

The programme’s host, Ed Martínez, appeared visibly shocked as the terrifying scene unfolded live on air.

Shortly after the incident, Martínez took to Instagram to assure viewers that Vargas was safe.

“Thankfully, he’s safe, but very scared,” he wrote.

He also appealed to the public for help identifying the suspect, adding that the attack happened in Morelos, south of Mexico City.

The armed robber escaped with Vargas’ car, phone, wallet, and other personal belongings.
