Oscar-Winning Actress Brenda Fricker Dies at 81

Award-winning Irish actress Brenda Fricker has died after a period of illness.

According to TMZ, the news of her passing was confirmed by her agent, Phil Belfield, who disclosed that Fricker died on Thursday night in Dublin.

Paying tribute to the late actress, Belfield described her as an extraordinary talent whose impact on film and television will never be forgotten.

He said:

“We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her. I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”

Throughout her distinguished career, Brenda Fricker earned recognition for portraying Daniel Day-Lewis’ on-screen mother in the acclaimed film My Left Foot. She was also fondly remembered by audiences for her performances in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Angels in the Outfield, roles that introduced her to generations of movie fans.

In 1990, Fricker received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her outstanding performance in My Left Foot, making history as one of Ireland’s most celebrated actresses.
