Chicago CBP seize 4.4lbs of bushmeat from passenger arriving from Africa
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Chicago have intercepted 4.4 pounds of bushmeat from a passenger arriving in the United States from Benin via Brussels.
Officials said the discovery was made during routine inspection procedures at the point of entry.
In a statement shared by CBP, the agency described the interception as a significant enforcement action, noting both health and legal concerns associated with the importation of such products.
It read:
“A squeak-tacular interception! Chicago CBP agriculture specialists intercepted 4.4lbs of bushmeat (African rodent) from a passenger arriving from Benin via Brussels. Bushmeat refers to meat from wild animals—bats, non-human primates, and cane rats—from certain regions of the world that poses a significant communicable disease risk, and is illegal to import into the U.S”
Authorities emphasized that bushmeat is prohibited from entering the United States due to the potential risk of communicable diseases and biosecurity concerns.

Popular South African media personality and actress Pearl Thusi has opened up about why she has no desire to get married, revealing that painful childhood experiences continue to influence her views on marriage.

“I run away from marriage like a lot, because for a long time I believed that my mom kind of died because she was married.
“My father was abusive to my mother…….Whether it was infidelity, or her being in a car with him in the middle of the night because he thought she was up to something, he would take her to the middle of the bush and point a gun at her.”

Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his wife at a hospital in South Africa
A 56-year-old man, Molabe Fannie Seribishane, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife, Mamsy Seribishane, a 52-year-old nurse.
The sentence was handed down on June 10 following the fatal shooting that occurred at Lebowakgomo Hospital on October 22, 2024, where Mamsy was reporting for duty.
Malabi said that on the day of the incident, Seribishane arrived at the hospital armed with a semi-automatic firearm and shot his wife before fleeing the scene in a white Volkswagen Golf 7.
Authorities later arrested him on November 13, 2024. Police reportedly found him in possession of a firearm that had been reported stolen in Seshego earlier that year.
A ballistic examination later linked the weapon to the shooting.
The court also heard that Seribishane had repeatedly threatened to burn down the family home before the incident.
During sentencing, Senior State Advocate David Sebelebele argued that the killing was premeditated and motivated by anger over his wife’s attempts to resolve their marital problems through legal means.
He maintained that there were no substantial or compelling circumstances that justified a sentence less than life imprisonment.
Judge Karin Leanee Pillay agreed with the prosecution’s submissions and described the State’s case as “watertight.”
“The accused never showed remorse and continued to blame other people for the murder of his wife. He planned the murder and executed it,” Pillay said.
In addition to the life sentence for murder, Seribishane was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for contravening the Domestic Violence Act, 15 years for unlawful possession of a firearm, and six years for unlawful possession of ammunition.
The court ordered that the additional sentences run concurrently with the life sentence.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
