Man exhumes his sister remains after bank demands proof before releasing her funds

A disturbing video has gone viral online, capturing the moment a man reportedly dug up his late sister’s grave and carried her skeletal remains through the streets in a desperate attempt to prove her death to a bank.

The incident took place at the Maliposi branch of Odisha Grameen Bank in the Patana block of Keonjhar district, India. The man, identified as Jeetu Munda, a 50-year-old resident of Dianali village, was seen transporting the remains toward the bank after repeated failed attempts to access funds belonging to his deceased sister.

According to reports, Jeetu had been trying to withdraw ₹20,000 from his sister’s account but was denied access by bank officials. His sister, Kalra Munda, aged 56, had passed away in January this year.

Despite informing the bank of her death, Jeetu claimed his explanation was not accepted as sufficient proof. He said the bank insisted that the account holder must be present in order to process the withdrawal.

Speaking to reporters, Jeetu explained his actions, saying:
“I have run several times to the bank, and the people there told me to bring the account holder to withdraw money deposited in her name. Though I told them that she had died, they did not listen to me and insisted on bringing her to the bank. Therefore, out of frustration, I dug the grave and brought out her skeleton as proof of her death.”

The shocking act quickly drew attention from both the public and authorities. Jeetu was later seen speaking with police officers outside the bank, where he was reportedly assured that the issue would be resolved through proper legal procedures.

Authorities have since promised to assist him in accessing the funds through the correct channels, ensuring that the necessary documentation is processed appropriately.

Following the intervention, the remains of Kalra Munda were respectfully returned and reburied at the graveyard in the presence of police officers.
