Medical Student Found Dead in Apartment as Ex-Boyfriend Murd£rs her

A tragic incident has claimed the life of 22-year-old medical student Julia Vitoria Sobierai Cardoso, who was found dead in her apartment in what authorities have described as a brutal attack.

The incident occurred on April 24, when Julia’s flatmate discovered her lifeless body and immediately raised the alarm. Reports later confirmed that the attack had taken place just six hours before she was found.

A post-mortem examination revealed the extent of the violence. Julia had suffered 67 stab wounds, with 60 of those injuries reportedly inflicted using cuticle scissors. Additional injuries were found around her neck, suggesting she had also been strangled during the attack.

Authorities have identified her ex-boyfriend, Vitor Rangel Aguiar, as the prime suspect. The 27-year-old, who is also a medical student, has been charged in absentia with her murder and is currently on the run. It is believed he may have fled back to Brazil.

Julia, originally from Chapecó, Brazil, had spent much of her life in Navegantes with her family. In 2025, she moved to Paraguay to pursue her medical studies at Universidad de la Integración de las Américas, where she was working toward her dream of becoming a doctor.

Friends and loved ones have described her as a dedicated and compassionate individual. Her close friend, Sara Cazarotto, shared heartfelt memories, saying:
“She was very hardworking and studious – it was her dream to make that promise come true.
“She loved children. She always wanted to build her own family and one day become a mother, and he took all of that away from her.”

According to investigators, Julia and her ex-boyfriend had ended their relationship four months before the incident. However, authorities believe he may have struggled to accept the breakup.

Prosecutor Osvaldo Zaracho stated:
“This man probably hadn’t accepted the end of the relationship and had been trying to get closer to her again as a friend.
“On Friday, he went to the apartment where she lived, supposedly to talk.”

Julia was laid to rest in Navegantes on April 27, 2026.
