81-Year-Old Woman Reveals She Buried Her Baby Without Knowing His Br@in Had Been Removed, Blames Hospital
An 81-year-old woman, Jane Andrews, has shared the heartbreaking story of how her six-week-old baby died in January 1980—only for her to later discover that she buried him without knowing his br@in had been removed.
In an interview with Metro, Jane said the tragedy happened at Southampton General Hospital, where she gave birth to her son, John.
She explained that at the time of his burial, she believed her baby was whole, only to later learn the devastating truth.
“I thought John was all complete. But now I know I never buried him completely.
“i was deprived of my final goodbyes. That is hard to live with. I think it is disgusting and terrible.”
Jane shared that she was working as a shop assistant in Salisbury when she found out she was pregnant with John. His birth came after years of heartbreak, including the loss of her first son, Michael, who died shortly after being born in 1967.
Following Michael’s death, Jane suffered several miscarriages and reproductive health issues before becoming pregnant with John. Doctors later classified the pregnancy as high-risk after she had been prescribed the controversial drug DES, which she believes caused a life-threatening tumour.
As a result of complications, her waters broke early, and she was rushed to Southampton General Hospital for an emergency caesarean section in a bid to save her baby.
When Jane regained consciousness, John had been placed in the hospital’s special care baby unit.
“I got him christened as soon as I could because it wasn’t clear if he was going to make it.
“Each day I was allowed to go down and look at him in an incubator and I was allowed to just hold his hand.”
Tragically, John later died from pneumonia, prematurity, birth asphyxia, and respiratory distress syndrome, just as Jane was preparing to bring him home.
“They let me nurse him in a special baby unit for a few minutes, and they took him away.”
She said that was the last time she saw her son’s body, as she was not allowed to see him again before he was buried.
“I wanted to see him before the burial, but it was either I wasn’t allowed to or it was advisable not to. I always wondered why.”

An undertaker later told her it was because she would not want to see his body after a post-mortem examination.
At the time, Jane accepted the explanation and went on to train as a nurse, believing she was giving back to the NHS. However, over the years, questions continued to haunt her.
“I blamed myself all the time for John’s death. That is hard to live with when you have that 24/7 over your head.
“But the more I thought about it, when you lose somebody you are allowed to see them before they are buried and spend time with them.”
In 2001, Jane wrote to the hospital seeking answers. She said nothing could have prepared her for the response she received from the then Chief Executive of University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust, David Moss.
He told her:
“You are probably aware that after John’s death in 1980, a post mortem examination was carried out at the request of the doctor to try and establish why he died.
“I can now confirm that John’s brain was removed as part of this examination.
“I can also confirm that after the post mortem investigations were completed, the hospital arranged for his brain to be respectfully disposed of by cremation.”
The letter added that John’s body had been kept in a special preserving fluid for up to eight weeks and included an unreserved apology, stating Jane was not informed at the time to avoid causing further distress.
“When I read the letter it made me feel worse.
“All the time I had been blaming myself. I feel that I was cheated from having him buried respectfully.
“I do not know what happened to his brain. If it was ‘disposed of properly’ why was it not put in an urn?”
The hospital also confirmed that “very small samples of tissue” were taken from other parts of John’s body, adding:
“I am sorry that you were not told about this at the time of your baby’s death.
“This was not because anyone was deliberately trying to withhold information.”
Jane’s granddaughter, Emma, also spoke about the impact the discovery had on their family.

“She had a newborn baby whose organ was ripped apart, and his mother had no chance of saying goodbye.
“It makes you wonder. Was this just her? Was this other people? Why did my nan have to live through this?
“If there’s one thing that I can go out and do for her now, it is reclaim some justice for her. She’s alive, and it’s her time to tell her tale.”
Emma, who has faced reproductive issues throughout her life, describes herself as a “DES granddaughter” due to the drug her grandmother was prescribed.
She is now part of a campaign seeking justice for those affected by DES and says serious questions remain unanswered about what role the drug may have played in John’s death.

Hiker Dies After Falling From Cliff While Posing for Photo on Scenic Viewpoint
The victim, identified as Caio Rocha Aguiar Arrabal, reportedly fell while attempting to climb down from a rock on the wrong side of the viewpoint, plunging approximately 150 metres to his death.
The incident occurred on Sunday, June 28.

A video circulating online captured the moments before the fall, with a woman heard warning Caio to be careful. Seconds later, he lost his footing and fell.
According to reports, Caio was part of a team leading a hiking group from Araruama. Although he had hiking experience, it was his first time on that particular trail.
Emergency responders began a rescue operation at about 11:40 a.m., with the mission lasting nearly four hours. Rescue teams were assisted by a helicopter due to the difficult terrain.
Matheus Moura of the Maricá Civil Defence told local media:
“It was a very complex, very difficult rescue.
“We had to go in through a densely wooded area with extremely difficult access to reach him.
“We had to climb, ascend using ropes and carry out several procedures before getting to the site.
“I was able to recover the body together with the helicopter crew.”
The Pedra do Macaco trail is about 700 metres long and reaches an altitude of approximately 230 metres.
While much of the trail is considered relatively easy, the final ascent to the summit requires mountaineering experience and specialised climbing skills.
The exposed rock at the summit is a popular spot for visitors taking photographs, but it has also been the site of previous accidents.
According to Moura, Caio attempted to descend from the wrong side of the rock before the fatal fall.

According to Momodu, the journey required resilience, discipline, and perseverance through weeks of demanding physical and mental training.
He wrote:
“From inception, I have always believed in achievements earned through merit, which is why I constantly push myself beyond limits.
This particular one was forged through tears, fear of failure, resilience, endless days, short nights, fatigue, rain, and the scorching sun.
There were moments of doubt and times I questioned myself, “who send me message sef”? But I never lost sight of the finish line.
We trained tirelessly, were broken down and rebuilt. I went to sleep a civilian and woke up a soldier.
Ten weeks of being incommunicado. Ten weeks of learning to find comfort in discomfort.
On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way. 20 years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigerian Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army.

Woman Left Devastated After Jaw Surgery Goes Wrong
The woman, identified as c, said she initially visited a dental hospital to receive dental implants because she had a slightly protruding lower jaw.

According to pre-operative assessments, Xiaoyu had a 2mm mandibular protrusion, and the recommended treatment was a 2mm backward adjustment of her lower jaw.
However, she alleged that surgeons at Wuhan University Stomatological Hospital performed the opposite procedure, moving her jaw approximately 13mm forward instead, leaving her with a dramatically altered appearance.
Since undergoing the operation in 2025, Xiaoyu said she has consulted several dental hospitals, all of which reportedly concluded that reconstructive surgery would be extremely complex.

According to reports, the full reconstruction process is expected to take between four and five years and could cost more than 300,000 Chinese yuan.
Speaking to local media, Xiaoyu said the surgery changed her appearance so drastically that she now resembles portraits of Hongwu, the founding emperor of China’s Ming Dynasty, who ruled from 1368 to 1398.
She also claimed that doctors initially told her her condition had “relapsed” before later acknowledging that a surgical error had occurred.

According to Xiaoyu, one of the doctors told her:
“You need to accept your new appearance.”
Local media identified the lead surgeon as Wu Zhongxing, a specialist in orthognathic, facial cosmetic, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Wu is reportedly a member of the Chinese Association of Plastics and Aesthetics, has published more than 10 academic papers, and has received professional training in Germany, Hong Kong, and South Korea.

Court Jails Man for 14 Days for Storing Poo Near Residential Homes
A magistrate court in Kano State has sentenced a man, Mohammed Saidu, to two weeks in prison after residents complained about his habit of storing bags of human waste outside his home, creating severe environmental and health concerns in the community.
The case was brought before the court after several residents reported the offensive odor emanating from Saidu’s property to environmental authorities. Following an investigation, the court found that the waste posed a significant public health risk to people living in the area.
According to local sources, Saidu works as a septic tank evacuator and reportedly collects human waste for sale to farmers who use it as fertilizer, a practice that is not uncommon in some communities.
Speaking on the matter, community leader Musa Abdullahi revealed that authorities discovered dozens of bags of human waste on the property when the issue was first reported.
Residents said they had endured the unpleasant smell for an extended period and had repeatedly asked Saidu to stop storing the waste near their homes.
One of the complainants, Samaila Inuwa, said community members initially attempted to settle the issue amicably before involving authorities.
“We spoke to him several times about the problem, but nothing changed,” he said.
Saidu later pleaded guilty in court to endangering public health.
Before delivering her verdict, Magistrate Wali personally inspected the property and confirmed the presence of the waste bags. She subsequently ordered Saidu to remove all the waste from the premises and warned him against repeating the offense.
Residents have expressed relief following the court’s intervention, noting that the environment has become more comfortable and sanitary since the waste was cleared.
Local chief Abdullahi stated that he had previously advised Saidu against storing the waste in the neighborhood and was surprised to learn that the practice had resumed.
He added that community members chose to bypass traditional mediation this time and report the matter directly to government authorities.
According to Abdullahi, maintaining peace and healthy living conditions within the community remains a top priority, and further discussions will be held with both Saidu and residents after his release.
