81-Year-Old Woman Reveals She Buried Her Baby Without Knowing His Br@in Had Been Removed, Blames Hospital

An 81-year-old woman, Jane Andrews, has shared the heartbreaking story of how her six-week-old baby died in January 1980—only for her to later discover that she buried him without knowing his br@in had been removed.

In an interview with Metro, Jane said the tragedy happened at Southampton General Hospital, where she gave birth to her son, John.

She explained that at the time of his burial, she believed her baby was whole, only to later learn the devastating truth.

“I thought John was all complete. But now I know I never buried him completely.

“i was deprived of my final goodbyes. That is hard to live with. I think it is disgusting and terrible.”

Jane shared that she was working as a shop assistant in Salisbury when she found out she was pregnant with John. His birth came after years of heartbreak, including the loss of her first son, Michael, who died shortly after being born in 1967.

Following Michael’s death, Jane suffered several miscarriages and reproductive health issues before becoming pregnant with John. Doctors later classified the pregnancy as high-risk after she had been prescribed the controversial drug DES, which she believes caused a life-threatening tumour.

As a result of complications, her waters broke early, and she was rushed to Southampton General Hospital for an emergency caesarean section in a bid to save her baby.

When Jane regained consciousness, John had been placed in the hospital’s special care baby unit.

“I got him christened as soon as I could because it wasn’t clear if he was going to make it.

“Each day I was allowed to go down and look at him in an incubator and I was allowed to just hold his hand.”

Tragically, John later died from pneumonia, prematurity, birth asphyxia, and respiratory distress syndrome, just as Jane was preparing to bring him home.

“They let me nurse him in a special baby unit for a few minutes, and they took him away.”

She said that was the last time she saw her son’s body, as she was not allowed to see him again before he was buried.

“I wanted to see him before the burial, but it was either I wasn’t allowed to or it was advisable not to. I always wondered why.”

An undertaker later told her it was because she would not want to see his body after a post-mortem examination.

At the time, Jane accepted the explanation and went on to train as a nurse, believing she was giving back to the NHS. However, over the years, questions continued to haunt her.

“I blamed myself all the time for John’s death. That is hard to live with when you have that 24/7 over your head.

“But the more I thought about it, when you lose somebody you are allowed to see them before they are buried and spend time with them.”

In 2001, Jane wrote to the hospital seeking answers. She said nothing could have prepared her for the response she received from the then Chief Executive of University Hospitals Southampton NHS Trust, David Moss.

He told her:

“You are probably aware that after John’s death in 1980, a post mortem examination was carried out at the request of the doctor to try and establish why he died.

“I can now confirm that John’s brain was removed as part of this examination.

“I can also confirm that after the post mortem investigations were completed, the hospital arranged for his brain to be respectfully disposed of by cremation.”

The letter added that John’s body had been kept in a special preserving fluid for up to eight weeks and included an unreserved apology, stating Jane was not informed at the time to avoid causing further distress.

“When I read the letter it made me feel worse.

“All the time I had been blaming myself. I feel that I was cheated from having him buried respectfully.

“I do not know what happened to his brain. If it was ‘disposed of properly’ why was it not put in an urn?”

The hospital also confirmed that “very small samples of tissue” were taken from other parts of John’s body, adding:

“I am sorry that you were not told about this at the time of your baby’s death.

“This was not because anyone was deliberately trying to withhold information.”

Jane’s granddaughter, Emma, also spoke about the impact the discovery had on their family.

“She had a newborn baby whose organ was ripped apart, and his mother had no chance of saying goodbye.

“It makes you wonder. Was this just her? Was this other people? Why did my nan have to live through this?

“If there’s one thing that I can go out and do for her now, it is reclaim some justice for her. She’s alive, and it’s her time to tell her tale.”

Emma, who has faced reproductive issues throughout her life, describes herself as a “DES granddaughter” due to the drug her grandmother was prescribed.

She is now part of a campaign seeking justice for those affected by DES and says serious questions remain unanswered about what role the drug may have played in John’s death.

According to an account shared by Viviana’s mother, Isabella recalled how her mother reacted when gas began entering their vehicle.

She said Viviana instructed her to hold her breath before taking her into her arms and carrying her away from the vehicle.

Viviana and Isabella

As the gas ignited, Viviana reportedly placed her own body between her daughter and the flames, taking the full force of the fire to protect Isabella.

The six-year-old girl suffered burns to approximately four per cent of her body.

She was taken to a local hospital, where she received treatment before eventually being discharged and taken home.

Viviana, however, suffered far more serious injuries.

She sustained second- and third-degree burns covering more than half of her body and initially received treatment at a local medical facility.

Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later intubated and transferred to Mexico City for specialist medical care.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Viviana’s condition remained critical.

She eventually died in the intensive care unit on August 13, one week after the devastating explosion.

Her death has left her family mourning a mother whose final moments were spent trying to protect her child from the flames.

The LPG tanker explosion also affected other people in the area.

At least 20 people were reportedly injured, including children, while several cars and homes were damaged during the incident.

I Thought I Was Going to Die – Man Reveals How a Spider Bite Nearly Cost Him His Life

A man identified as Peter Murphy has recounted how a seemingly harmless spider encounter nearly cost him his life after he developed a severe infection that left his flesh badly damaged.

Murphy said the ordeal began when he noticed a strange-looking spider crawling across his bed. At the time, he did not consider the encounter serious and carried on with his normal routine.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

However, the following day, he began experiencing discomfort in his right wrist, accompanied by swelling and redness.

His condition deteriorated rapidly, and by the next day, he was reportedly unable to speak properly.

Murphy was rushed to hospital, where doctors discovered that he had developed a serious infection. He was eventually placed in a coma as medical teams worked to prevent the infection from spreading further.

Murphy said the last thing he remembered before being placed in the coma was hearing doctors explain to his wife, Toni, that the infection had travelled up his arm and that amputation might be necessary.

Speaking about the terrifying moment, he said:

“At this point, my life was flashing before my eyes,”

“I turned to Toni, managed a smile, and said……… I don’t think I’m going to make it through this. This could be goodbye.

“The shock of it all was overwhelming.

“Various doctors were rushing to my bedside and explaining to me what they thought was happening.

“They needed to contain it and get it under control very quickly, or it would rapidly move to other parts of my body.

“The doctors seemed very worried and wanted to operate as soon as possible.

“I could sense it was life-threatening but felt helpless.

“I was asked when being operated on if I wished to be resuscitated

“I agreed.

Murphy later revealed that he suffered from severe cellulitis and sepsis during the ordeal, which occurred in October 2022.

While recovering in hospital, Murphy was also dealing with the loss of his brother, who had died the week before he began fighting for his own life.

He later discovered that his sister had also been admitted to the same hospital and was being treated in a ward directly above his.

He recalled:

“I was sitting in my hospital bed reflecting on my brother passing away the week before I was fighting for my life in hospital.

“When talking to one of the nurses, I remembered my sister had just been admitted, too.

“After checking, she found out she was in the ward right above me.

“When I got to her room, I found all the family around her hospital bed, as she was not in a good way.
“I suppose, in my mind, I said my goodbyes, and that was the last time I saw her, as she passed away shortly afterwards.

“Maybe it was fate that this weird-looking spider was sent to me and made me so poorly.
“It brought me and my sister together for the final time.”
Long Road to Recovery

Murphy’s recovery did not end after he survived the infection.

He said the weeks that followed were extremely difficult as he worked to regain his strength and underwent skin grafting and physiotherapy to restore movement in his hand and fingers.

He also experienced a major change in his weight during the period.

Reflecting on his recovery and subsequent lifestyle changes, Murphy said:

“I was very sceptical at first, as I have lost weight many times during my life and always put it back on – and more.

“But Toni was adamant that this was an opportunity we couldn’t let pass us by.
“Today, all my symptoms have disappeared, and I’ve fully recovered.

“We were in our sixties, growing old together.

“But now, it feels like we’re staying young together.

“Joining Slimming World was the best thing we ever did.

“It was making those lifestyle changes and being involved with other members that helped us turn our lives around.

“My advice is don’t focus on losing weight – that will come – but it does matter what you eat today and tomorrow.

“It’s not too late to make that change.

“Reflecting back on what happened puts me through every emotion possible.

“From thinking that I might not see my family again, or my little grandchildren grow up, to the pain of rehabilitation.

“Having got there in the end, I can laugh about it now.

“I guess I’m one of the lucky ones; even though it didn’t seem like that at the time.

“Life is now pleasurable and effortless.

“We only gave up one thing – and that was the weight we were carrying.

“We said goodbye to our worries about dying and said hello to living.”

Former Cambridge Professor Jason Arday Found Dead Days After Resigning

Former University of Cambridge professor Jason Arday has been found dead in south London, just nine days after resigning from his prestigious academic position amid controversy surrounding allegations of plagiarism.

Arday was reportedly found lifeless at an address in south London on Friday.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

The Metropolitan Police confirmed his death, saying in a statement:

“At this time his death is being treated as unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious.”

His death came only days after he stepped down as a professor and fellow of Jesus College, University of Cambridge, following intense scrutiny of his academic work and personal life.
Arday Was Cambridge’s Youngest Black Professor

Arday made history in 2023 when he was appointed as a professor at Cambridge, becoming the youngest Black professor in the university’s history.

His academic career, however, came under renewed scrutiny following a series of investigative reports.

Among the allegations was a claim that portions of his 2015 doctoral thesis contained passages that were identical or very similar to material from an earlier paper written by another researcher.

On July 24, The Times published an analysis of the thesis, highlighting what it described as multiple examples of passages that were “identical or near-identical” to the earlier work.

Questions were also raised in the British media about Arday’s claims of having raised £5.5 million ($7.4 million) for charity through endurance challenges, including running 30 marathons in 35 days and covering 965 kilometres in six days.

Arday acknowledged that he had made mistakes but rejected the wider allegations against him, saying he had been unfairly portrayed.

He said he was being wrongly “portrayed to be a liar and a fantasist and an academic fraud”.
Arday announced his resignation from Cambridge last week, saying that the personal toll of the scrutiny had become too difficult to continue bearing.

“While criticism is an inevitable part of academic life, what I have experienced has gone far beyond scholarly disagreement,” he said.

Cambridge University had initially dismissed plagiarism claims made against Arday by a former colleague, noting that the allegations had previously been investigated by Liverpool John Moores University.

However, Cambridge later announced that it would conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding Arday’s appointment.
Following his death, Arday’s family criticised what they described as a campaign of harassment and misinformation directed at the academic.

In a statement released through his publisher, Simon & Schuster, the family said:

“The campaign of misinformation was too much for Jason, who was a gentle man and who always wanted to see the best in everyone. We are in shock to have lost this amazing father, partner, brother, uncle and son,”

Arday’s death has brought an abrupt end to the life and career of an academic who had made history at one of Britain’s most prestigious universities.

We Are Appealing to Individuals, Organisations, Philanthropists and Anyone Who Can Help Us Raise the Money – Family Seeks ₦17 Million for Baby’s Urgent Heart Surgery Before She Turns 6 Months

A Nigerian family is appealing to members of the public for financial assistance to raise between N14 million and N17 million for an urgent heart surgery needed by their infant daughter, Robiah.

Robiah, who was born on May 9, 2026, was diagnosed with a complex congenital heart defect after her parents noticed that she was breathing unusually fast.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

According to a report published by PUNCH, an echocardiography examination conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, on July 2, 2026, revealed that the baby has a complete atrioventricular septal defect (balanced), Rastelli type A.

The medical examination also identified several other heart abnormalities, including a large inlet ventricular septal defect, a large ostium primum atrial septal defect, an additional ostium secundum atrial septal defect and a patent ductus arteriosus.

The medical report further indicated that Robiah has Trisomy 21.
Doctors Advise Surgery Before She Turns Six Months

The family is now considering two possible treatment options as they race against time to secure the money required for the procedure.

The cardiologist attending to Robiah at LASUTH has advised that she undergo corrective surgery before she turns six months old on November 9, 2026.

One of the options recommended to the family is treatment at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, where the estimated cost of the surgery is about N17 million.

The family is also considering a programme associated with the Kanu Heart Foundation, which could provide an opportunity for independent funders to cover the cost of treatment in India.

Robiah’s father, Abass Ayoife Adegbite, explained that the family is struggling to raise the amount required for the surgery.

He told PUNCH:

“We are placed on a waiting list which is very far off. Alternatively, the family was given a consolidated estimate of about N14m, with a September target for the procedure”

“All medical documents, including the echocardiography report, are available for verification by prospective donors.

“We are appealing to Nigerians and kind-hearted people to come to our daughter’s aid. The doctors have told us that the surgery needs to be done before she turns six months. That means we do not have much time left. We are looking at September for one of the treatment options, but we have raised only about N900,000 so far.

“As a father, it is heartbreaking to watch your child go through this and know that what she needs is beyond what you can afford. We are not asking people for anything other than help to give our daughter a chance to live.

“The estimated cost is between N14m and N17m, depending on the treatment option. We are appealing to individuals, organisations, philanthropists and anyone who can help us raise the money. Every contribution, no matter how small, will bring us closer to saving her life.”

Florida Woman Shot Her Mother After Discovering Her Mother Porn Photos on Husband’s Phone, Then Killed Two Children

A tragic family shooting in Plant City, Florida, has left several people dead after a 27-year-old woman shot her mother before fleeing with her three children and killing two of them.

The woman, identified as Hailey Dempsey shot her 55-year-old mother, Valerie DeBoe, in the early hours of May 3 at the family’s home in Plant City, in the Tampa Bay area.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

According to police, Dempsey later fled the property on foot with her three young daughters. She killed her 4-year-old and 4-month-old daughters before shooting at her 2-year-old daughter and missing. She then turned the gun on herself in an apparent suicide attempt.

The Plant City Police Department disclosed further details about the case on August 13, following a three-month investigation into the devastating incident.

Police Chief Richard Mills said the events appeared to have begun after an argument between Dempsey and her mother on May 1.

According to investigators, Dempsey had discovered pornography on the cellphone of her husband, Jay, which led to a heated argument between the couple.

Mills said the dispute was not connected to an allegation of infidelity.

“It wasn’t cheating or anything like that, evidently it was just porn, and they were having an argument over that,”

Valerie DeBoe with hailey infant

He added:

“I think that’s what everything stemmed from.”

Police were called to the Dempseys’ home three times in the two days before the fatal shootings.

When officers first arrived, Mills said they spoke with the couple but found no evidence at the time to suggest that violence or criminal conduct had occurred.

According to the police chief, Dempsey later contacted authorities again and asked officers to check whether a tracking device had been placed on her vehicle. Officers searched but did not find one.
Following the earlier incidents, Dempsey left the property with her children and her mother, who had been visiting from Clearwater.

The family spent the night at a hotel before returning to the residence the following day.

Police were again called to accompany them to the home so Dempsey could collect clothing while her husband was away.

Mills also revealed that investigators found indications that Dempsey and her husband later met at a local library, where they had a private, one-on-one conversation.
Dempsey’s husband was detained after the killings as investigators examined whether he had any connection to the deaths.

However, after police thoroughly investigated his possible involvement, authorities ruled him out as a suspect. He was never arrested or charged in connection with the killings.

Mills said investigators also found indications that mental illness may have played a role in the tragedy.

The police chief described the investigation as one that required considerable patience, diligence and precision because of the circumstances surrounding the case.
Speaking about the aftermath, Mills became emotional as he described the scene investigators encountered.

“I’ve been in law enforcement for 34 years, I was on that scene, and it was probably the worst scene that I’ve ever seen in my life,” Mills said, fighting back tears.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking. The worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

The surviving 2-year-old girl, who escaped being shot, is reportedly in good health and is staying with family.

Woman Faces 72 Charges After 36 Dogs Are Rescued From Her Home Filled With Faeces, Urine and Dirt

A 62-year-old woman identified as Paige O’Donnell is facing 72 charges after authorities rescued 36 dogs from her home in Palm City, Florida, during an investigation into alleged animal hoarding.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

Paige O’Donnell

The case came to light after deputies and Animal Services officers obtained a search warrant for O’Donnell’s residence on August 10, 2026.

When officers entered the property, they reportedly found dozens of dogs living in extremely poor conditions. According to authorities, the animals were matted and covered in faeces and urine, with many requiring immediate medical attention and care.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office said the condition inside the property was significantly different from its exterior, which appeared to be well-maintained, neatly groomed and surrounded by fencing.

Inside, however, deputies encountered faeces, urine-soaked materials, boxes and other debris throughout the residence. The conditions reportedly made it difficult for officers to locate the animals and safely remove them.

The Dogs receiving healthcare treatment

Due to the state of the property, deputies and Animal Services officers had to wear Tyvek protective suits while carrying out the rescue operation.

Authorities said O’Donnell had claimed during the investigation that she had no more than five dogs inside the home. Officers ultimately discovered 36 dogs, all of which were removed from the property.
Woman Faces 72 Charges

Following the investigation, O’Donnell was charged with a total of 72 offences.

The charges include 36 felony counts of animal cruelty and 36 misdemeanor counts for allegedly failing to provide the dogs with proper exercise or air.

In a statement released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities said:

“This afternoon, 62-year-old Paige O’Donnell learned her fate in court following yesterday’s disturbing animal hoarding investigation.

The home the dogs were rescued

A judge set O’Donnell’s total bond at $275,000 and ordered that she may not own or possess either temporary or permanent any animals as conditions of her bond.

O’Donnell is facing 72 total charges — 36 counts of felony animal cruelty and 36 misdemeanor counts for failing to provide the dogs with proper exercise or air.

The charges stem from what Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Animal Services officers discovered after obtaining a search warrant for O’Donnell’s Palm City home yesterday. The dogs were matted, covered in feces and urine and were in desperate need of care.
From the outside, the home appeared well-maintained, neatly groomed and fenced off. Inside was a much different story.

The conditions were so deplorable that deputies and Animal Services officers had to wear Tyvek protective clothing while working inside the home. Feces, urine-soaked materials, boxes and debris throughout the residence made the process of locating and safely removing the animals extremely challenging.

Throughout the investigation, O’Donnell claimed she had no more than five dogs inside the home. Deputies located 36. All were removed from the home and are now in the care and custody of the Treasure Coast Humane Society where they are being evaluated, cleaned, treated and cared for.

The future of the animals remains in the hands of the courts. For now, they are safe, receiving the care they desperately need.

If you would like to help, monetary donations made directly to the Treasure Coast Humane Society would be very appreciated.

The animals will require food, medical care, grooming and continued attention as they recover”
Following their removal from the property, the 36 dogs were placed in the care and custody of the Treasure Coast Humane Society.

The animals are reportedly undergoing evaluation, cleaning, treatment and grooming as they begin recovering from the conditions in which they were found.

Nigeria Customs Intercepts Two Lion Cubs at Abuja Airport, Arrests Three Suspects Over Wildlife Trafficking

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted an alleged international wildlife trafficking operation at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, leading to the rescue of two live lion cubs and the arrest of three suspects.

The incident occurred on August 4, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation carried out by Customs officers at the airport’s Cargo Terminal.

Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

According to the Service, the suspects allegedly planned to move the lion cubs from Kano through Abuja, with Congo-Brazzaville listed as their intended final destination.

The operation was conducted by the Special Wildlife Office (SWO) of the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU), working alongside the FCT CIU, Customs Police Unit (CPU), FCT Command and conservation partner Focused Conservation.

The operation reportedly began after Customs officers received actionable intelligence concerning the suspected movement of wildlife through the airport.

Officers subsequently placed a black SUV under surveillance at the Cargo Terminal. During a physical inspection of the vehicle, a CIU operative reportedly heard animal sounds coming from the rear compartment.

The officers opened the luggage area and discovered two lion cubs hidden inside crates.

The discovery led to the immediate arrest of three individuals allegedly connected to the shipment. According to Customs, those arrested included the alleged owner of the animals, the driver of the vehicle and a Customs clearing agent.

The suspects are currently being interrogated as investigators work to establish whether other individuals are connected to the alleged trafficking operation.

In an official report released on August 10, 2026, by Assistant Comptroller of Customs Anuhu Mani, Officer-in-Charge of the Special Wildlife Office, the Service highlighted the seriousness of the attempted trafficking.

Mani stated:

” This operation sends an unmistakable message that Nigeria will not serve as a transit hub or safe haven for wildlife trafficking syndicates,”

He further stated:

“With fewer lions remaining in Nigeria’s wild, saving these cubs is not just an enforcement success, it is a critical conservation victory. Our specialized unit will continue to leverage intelligence, profile trade routes, and prosecute those who profit from the illegal trade of our endangered species.”

According to the Customs Service, the movement of the animals allegedly violates important national and international wildlife protection regulations, including the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and Nigeria’s Endangered Species Act (ESA).

Following their rescue, the two lion cubs were transferred to the Greenfingers Wildlife Conservation Initiative for veterinary attention, rehabilitation and specialized care.

The rescue represents another significant intervention against the illegal movement of protected wildlife through Nigeria’s transport routes.
