Bride’s Wedding Day Ruined After Sister-in-Law Throws Black Paint on Her in Revenge Attack
A bride’s long-awaited wedding day turned into a traumatic ordeal after her sister-in-law allegedly carried out a “revenge” attack, pouring black paint over her just hours before the ceremony.
The victim, Gemma Monk, was forced to change her wedding dress at the last minute following the incident, which occurred on May 24, 2024.
According to reports, her sister-in-law, Antonia Eastwood, carried out the attack amid an ongoing family dispute. The conflict reportedly stemmed from an earlier disagreement during Eastwood’s own wedding to Gemma’s brother, Ashley, in September the previous year.

Despite the incident, Gemma proceeded with the ceremony at Oakwood House, a Victorian mansion, where she married her childhood sweetheart, Ken Monk, after 20 years together. She walked down the aisle approximately two hours after her £1,800 dress had been drenched in paint.
At the time, she was also dealing with a cancer scare and later stated that Eastwood was aware of her situation.
The mother-of-two, who works in mental health, had to clean herself after paint covered much of the left side of her face, arm, and chest. She ultimately borrowed another dress for the ceremony.
Speaking about the ordeal, she said:
“We had waited for that day for so long. Nothing was going to stop me. She was determined that the wedding was not going to happen.
“I did not think twice, I would have walked down the aisle in my knickers and with black paint over my face if I had to”
Following the incident, Eastwood was sentenced to ten months in prison, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid work after pleading guilty to two counts of criminal damage.
The attack has had a lasting emotional impact on Mrs Monk. Since the wedding, she has reportedly suffered from depression and has been unable to work.

In a victim impact statement presented at Maidstone Crown Court, she said the incident:
“changed my outlook on life and made me question whether I had done something really bad”
She also described how the experience affected her emotionally, stating that she broke down while giving her statement to police.
Mrs Monk added that she would have struggled to cope without the support of her husband and children and said the attack left her feeling stripped of her dignity.
Reflecting on the day, she said it
“turned the most special day of my life into the worst memory I will never forget”
The couple were also forced to cancel their honeymoon to the Maldives as a result of the incident.
Prosecutor Pietro Matarazzo told the court:
‘Her wedding dress turned black. It was splattered with paint, as were her eyes, face, and skin.’
During proceedings, it was revealed that Eastwood admitted the act was a revenge attack in a pre-sentence report, although she had initially given “no comment” responses during police questioning.
Defence lawyer Clement Idowu told the court that Eastwood “wished to apologise” and noted that the case had taken a toll on her mental health.
Presiding judge Oliver Saxby KC described the incident as deeply troubling, stating that the defendant had turned the wedding into a “nightmare” and had “wanted to wreck her day.”
He further described her actions as
‘horrid and nasty and mean’.
In addition to the suspended sentence and unpaid work, Eastwood was handed a 10-year restraining order and ordered to pay £5,000 in compensation—£4,000 to Mrs Monk and £1,000 to Oakwood House.
Following the sentencing, Mrs Monk said she would never accept her sister-in-law’s apology and described the punishment as “too light.”
She also revealed that she and her husband no longer celebrate their wedding anniversary due to the traumatic experience but plan to renew their vows in the future to create new, positive memories.

I Was Live Streaming When They Entered Our Compound and Robbed All My Neighbours. It Wasn’t Up to 7 Seconds Before They Entered My House and Threatened to Machete My Head If I Didn’t Hand Over My Gadgets – Lady Cries Out After Being Robbed on Nigerian Independence Day as She Shares Livestream Video of the Incident

In a video shared on TikTok, the lady explained that the incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. while she was livestreaming from her home.

According to her account, the armed men allegedly invaded their compound, broke into her apartment and robbed residents across her street. She claimed that the attackers were armed with rifles and machetes, adding that residents who attempted to resist them were reportedly injured.

Recounting the incident in an emotional narration, the lady described the frightening moments she experienced as the attackers broke into her home, seized her electronic devices and demanded access to her phone.
Lady Narrates How Armed Men Broke Into Her Home
She said:
“I was robbed on Nigeria’s Independence Day, October 1st.
The craziest part was I was live on TikTok when it happened.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to tell this story, because honestly, I don’t even know how to explain what happened that night.
But I do have the actual live recording, and I’ll show you exactly what happened.
This clip was the recording from TikTok while I was live, before the phone was taken from me.
It was around 2:00 a.m. in the morning.
I was streaming, and suddenly I heard a shout downstairs.
My neighbour’s door was being broken into.
And I swear it wasn’t even up to seven seconds before I heard my door broken. Literally broken down.
And they kicked it in. They rushed towards me.
There were about four of them with rifles, with machetes.
One of them took the phone I was having in my hand and grabbed it. The other phone that was on my dresser, they took that too.
And at that point, I had to run out because I wasn’t even thinking about my feelings anymore.
Honestly, I was thinking about the fact that I wasn’t dressed. I wasn’t properly dressed.
And I was terrified that I was in the same room with four men that had weapons. I was scared that they would sexually assault me if I stayed inside.
So I ran out onto the veranda.
And the second I got out, I remembered that my laptop was on the locker, was on the table. I had to put it into the bag, and when I turned around, I realised that somebody else had taken it.
They had taken it, and then one of them came towards me, put a machete on my head, told me to give him my phone password.
My hands were shaking terribly. I could barely type.
I hesitated because I was terrified of giving them access to everything, to my phone.
I haven’t thought about putting the wrong password, but then I thought if I try it, they might hurt me.
So they gave me their own phone and told me to type my password into their phone.
That was when I realised that it wasn’t about my feelings anymore.
I genuinely did not know if I was going to make it out of that situation without being injured.
They dragged me back into the house, started asking, ‘Where are the cartridges of the phone?’
They needed the cartridges of the phone.
And I was just there standing.
I don’t know. I don’t know what cartridges? What cartridges? What cartridges do you want?
Then they started ransacking everything.
That was when they found my camera.
They kept asking, ‘What else do you have? Where is your money?’
And honestly, my gadgets are so important to me because that’s what I used to work, that’s what I used to earn, that’s what I used to make content to survive.
They took my camera. They just grabbed the camera back.
Eventually, I had to run outside again.
I did not want to stay indoors.
And they left my house and went from house to house.
I was just kneeling there, raising my hands in the air.
At one point, I had to lie down just to show that I wasn’t a threat.
I kept praying. I kept shouting, ‘Jesus, Jesus!’
If you see the video, the clip there, that was what I started with.
I kept calling the name of Jesus.
And it wasn’t just my house. It wasn’t just my house. They robbed almost every house on my street.
Those that tried to resist them, they were hurt. Those that did not give them what they wanted, they were injured.
But when I say I was scared, I didn’t mean I was scared because someone stole my phones or my laptop or my camera.
I was scared because I genuinely did not know what these people could do.
And when they were finally done, they left on their motorcycles.
But there’s something I keep thinking about: how vulnerable we can be in our homes.
But honestly, what I lost was just material things.
I’m grateful that I’m sitting here telling my story, because material things can be replaced.
I know people are gonna feel sorry for me, but that’s not the point of this video.
The point is awareness. Please be security-conscious.
Look at where you’re living.
Look at the security around your compound.
Pay attention to the people coming in and out of your environment.
Be careful about unfamiliar workers, visitors, people that just start appearing around your community.
Pay attention to your surroundings.
We have to be security-conscious.
And it’s funny because the irony of all this is not even lost on me.
It was Independence Day. While Nigeria was celebrating, I was outside my home at 2:00 a.m. in the morning, kneeling on the ground, hands in the air, and just praying to God that I survived the night without a scratch.
It really made me think about what independence and safety actually mean for ordinary Nigerians as we head into another election.
Election is this January. It’s basically three months away.
I think we all need to pay attention to security, whoever we choose to lead us.
Security has to be something we take seriously.
We need to ask questions about how citizens are being protected, because security shouldn’t only become a conversation after someone has been robbed, kidnapped, killed.
Look at the candidates. Look at their plans. Make your own informed decision.
I’ve never been so scared in my entire life.
And I don’t wish this experience on anybody, even my enemy.
I’m alive. I’m grateful.
But I’m asking you, please be careful.
Because sometimes the things we think could never happen to us can happen in less than seven seconds.”
