Man left with no teeth after traveling to Turkey for a teeth transplant
A father identified as Jon Denton has spoken out about his distressing experience after traveling to Turkey for dental treatment, an ordeal he says has left him without teeth and in ongoing pain.
According to Denton, his dental issues began after a motorbike accident in January 2020, during which his front teeth were knocked out while a breathing tube was inserted during emergency care.
He explained that a metal fixture placed in his jaw during recovery made it difficult to maintain proper oral hygiene, leading to further deterioration of his teeth.
Seeking treatment in the United Kingdom, he was reportedly quoted £30,000 for dental procedures—an amount he said he could not afford.
As his condition worsened, Denton said he experienced constant pain and struggled to eat without cutting food into small pieces “like a child.”
In search of a more affordable option, he traveled to Turkey, where he underwent a dental procedure costing approximately £3,500. During the treatment, 14 implants were fitted into his mouth.
However, he claimed that shortly after returning to the UK, he began experiencing severe pain and complications, including his bottom teeth falling out.
When he returned to Turkey for a follow-up in March, Denton said that while under sedation, the dentist removed all of his implants rather than repairing them.
Describing the moment, he said:
“I remember waking up and there was nothing [no teeth] there. Other than the front one that was a bit sore, all the rest of the teeth were solid. There was no need to remove them all. It was a shock to find they were all removed. [When I got home] for a couple of days I just locked myself away.
“In comparison, I was in a better position before going to Turkey than I am now. It was my partner’s birthday the other day and I tried to eat a bit of cake, which was soft, and I couldn’t. I know some people have gone to Turkey and got absolutely brilliant teeth but it’s not the case for me.
“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever been through, I wish I could turn back time.”
Denton explained that he had carefully selected the clinic after reviewing multiple options, choosing one he believed to be reputable.
“Before going to Turkey, I got used to covering my mouth when I talked to people and not smiling. I got lots of quotes from dentists in Turkey and I chose one that was middle ground as I thought it was a safe option. They had good reviews and were one of the few clinics that didn’t pressurise you into booking so they felt genuine.”
He also alleged that additional costs were introduced upon arrival, including an extra £800 fee. He described the procedure as rushed, stating that he spent six hours undergoing implant surgery before returning the next day for further treatment.
Initially pleased with the results, Denton said complications soon followed, including infection and implant failure.
“When I got there, everything felt rushed. After paying, signing all the paper work and having the scan I was in the chair within the hour.
“When I came back I was really happy but I was always in pain but I just thought it was part of the process. After the painkillers had worn off, it was a nine out of 10-excruciating pain. I would have rather broken my leg again like I did in 2020.
“The pain was constant and my mouth was throbbing. My temporary bottom teeth fell out, I laughed while sitting on the sofa and they just fell out. Excruciating pain followed, I physically couldn’t brush my teeth as they were so sore, it was becoming unbearable. They told me to fly back out and they’d reattach the teeth.”
Upon returning to Turkey, Denton said he paid an additional £300 for sedation, during which all implants were removed after reportedly failing. He was then offered either dentures at an additional cost or a partial refund of £2,700, which he accepted.
Now facing the need for further treatment, Denton has launched a fundraising effort to restore his dental health.
He said: “If I don’t sort this out, It’s going to ruin my relationship. I wake up in a foul mood everyday and I don’t want to go to work which is affecting my bills and income. The amount of pain I have gone through, I’ve got to go through it all again.”
