Kenyan Woman Truphena Muthoni Sets New Guinness World Record by Hugging Trees for 72 Hours

A determined Kenyan woman named Truphena Muthoni has just made history by hugging trees nonstop for a full 72 hours, earning herself a shiny new Guinness World Record.

The incredible feat took place right outside the Nyeri County Governor’s office starting on December 11, 2025. Truphena stood there embracing royal palm trees through pouring rain, blazing sun, and everything in between—no breaks, no letting go.

This isn’t her first time in the spotlight for tree-hugging. It’s actually her second Guinness record—she previously held the title for hugging trees for 48 hours straight. Clearly, she wasn’t done yet and decided to push the limit even further.

When asked about what drove her and how she feels about nature, Truphena shared something really touching: “Hugging a tree shows that nature is not separate from us, it is family.”

Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed at the highest levels. President William Ruto personally stepped in to celebrate her achievement. He awarded her the prestigious Head of State Commendation and appointed her as an official ambassador for Kenya’s ambitious 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign.
