Onlookers Shocked as Shopper’s Phone Explodes in Her Pocket Inside Supermarket

A shocking incident has gone viral after CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment a woman’s phone exploded while in her back pocket, setting her jeans on fire.

The woman was seen shopping with her husband in a supermarket, casually chatting when, out of nowhere, her phone burst into flames. As the fire spread, her husband, Mateus Soares Lima, immediately rushed to help, frantically trying to extinguish the flames while onlookers watched in shock.

The explosion caused severe injuries—burning part of her backside and even singeing her hair. Mateus quickly removed his shirt to help put out the fire before rushing to get water.

Shortly after, firefighters arrived at the scene, providing first aid before transporting her to a local hospital in Anápolis, northwest of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Doctors later confirmed that she suffered second-degree burns and will need to undergo skin graft surgery to treat the affected area.

Her husband shared that his wife is traumatized by the incident. He is now raising awareness, urging people—especially parents with young children—to be cautious about carrying phones in their pockets.

He said: “She’s really traumatised. I’m speaking out mainly to raise awareness.

“A lot of people have kids, and this is really dangerous.

“So, it’s important to stay alert, because, just like it happened to her, it could happen to others.”
