A 50-year-old woman, Furera Ibrahim, has been laid to rest after she was attacked and killed following allegations of witchcraft in Kwarin Shiddi, Katuka Village, Jigawa State.
The tragic incident occurred on December 4, when a group of her family members reportedly stormed her home and assaulted her.
According to an eyewitness, trouble began after relatives of a woman named Habiba—who had been bedridden—consulted a native doctor. The native doctor allegedly claimed that Furera was responsible for Habiba’s illness.
“About ten of Habiba’s relatives stormed Furera’s house and attacked her with machetes and sticks,” the witness said.
The eyewitness also revealed that two of Furera’s sons sustained injuries while attempting to protect their mother. They were rushed to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for treatment.
The spokesperson of the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is currently ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Human Rights Network has strongly condemned the killing. In a press statement, the group vowed to ensure that everyone involved in the attack will be brought to justice.
