A woman identified as Shenillica Bentencourt has shared a deeply emotional story about how her mother convinced her to have an abortion when she was six months pregnant.
In a heartfelt post shared on Facebook, Shenillica revealed that her mother’s disapproval and constant pressure led her not to make the decisions she was advised to do by her mother.
According to her, she got pregnant while she was still in senior high school and had no support system at the time. Instead of receiving comfort, she said her mother nagged and criticized her daily, insisting that having the baby would “ruin her life.”
Later, when Shenillica eventually had her baby — a son — and he turned six years old, her mother once again pressured her, this time urging her to give the boy up for adoption.
She wrote: “20 years ago, my mother tried to force me into getting an abortion at 6 months pregnant.
She didn’t stop there, she nagged me until my son was 6 years old to give him up for adoption.
Told me over and over again how I ruined my life.
I was a senior in high school.
His father was incarcerated most of his life.
I had no real support system.
And instead of being lifted up, people like my own mother made the struggle even heavier.
But let me tell you something…
I THANK GOD I didn’t give in.
Every tear, every sleepless night, every lonely moment, it all molded us.
It built us.
Against all odds… I raised a U.S. Marine.
We don’t do weak.
