Elephants attack crowd during a festival in India

An incident at the Puthiyangadi festival in Tirur, India, turned chaotic when an elephant suddenly lost control and attacked attendees during the celebration.  

Hundreds of people had gathered to enjoy the festival, where elephants adorned with decorative headgear and leg chains were part of the event.

However, the festive atmosphere turned to panic when one of the elephants became aggressive, charging at two men and butting them with its head.  

The elephant then picked up one of the men with its trunk, swinging him into the air before violently flinging him to the ground.  

Video footage showed bystanders rushing to drag the injured man to safety, while the mahout (elephant handler) made efforts to regain control of the animal.  

Reports indicate that at least 25 people were injured in the terrifying ordeal.
