Harry Potter star, Dame Maggie Smith is dead

Dame Maggie Smith, who starred in the popular “Harry Potter” movies, has passed away.

In a statement released by her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, they said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday, 27th September.

“An intensely private person, she was surrounded by friends and family in her final moments. She leaves behind two sons and five loving grandchildren, all devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for their care and kindness during her final days. We are grateful for all the kind messages of support and ask that our privacy be respected at this time.”

89yr old Dame Maggie Smith was best known for her role as Professor McGonagall in the Harry Potter series.
