10yr old girl sent back home from school after dying half of her Hair

A 10-year-old girl named Evie Smith has been excluded from school after teachers deemed her half-blonde hair “distracting” to other students.

Evie had dyed half of her hair blonde to match her favorite artist, Melanie Martinez, ahead of a concert in Manchester later this month. Martinez, known for her split-dye hairstyles inspired by Cruella de Vil from “101 Dalmatians,” was Evie’s source of inspiration.

On her first day back at school, Evie was sent home and instructed to return only after changing her hair back to its natural color. The school stated that her hairstyle did not meet their standards. However, Evie’s mother, April, has decided to keep the hairstyle until after the concert on September 21, 2024, and is currently homeschooling her daughter.

Evie expressed her disappointment, saying, “It makes me feel really disappointed in the school.

“They’ve singled me out because of my hair. It wasn’t distracting; it was in a ponytail, and nobody was touching it. All my friends think it’s really cool, but they don’t think it’s distracting.”

Evie added that her hair allows her to express herself, and she admires Melanie Martinez for turning negative comments into empowering messages through her music. “I love her songs and what she means in them lyrically because she tries to turn bullying words into compliments,” she said, excited about the upcoming concert.

Her mother defended her daughter’s individuality, stating, “Evie is a smart girl, hitting all her targets, getting good school reports, never late, and never missing any school. We’ve never had any complaints about Evie. All her friends love her.”

April emphasized the importance of self-expression for children, especially in today’s world. “Evie is so quiet, so it was a big thing for her to have her hair dyed. I thought it was great, and I’m proud of her for being different and not following the crowd.”
