I Became a mom at a Young age and things got worse when my mother died when I was 14
In a interview on the “Between Me & You” YouTube show with Leshia Danielle, Tawinika McKoy shared her harrowing experiences growing up with her stepfather and the traumatic events that led her to become a mother at a very young age.

Tawinika revealed that she was molested by her stepfather and faced worsening abuse after her mother’s death when she was 14.
She and her siblings moved to their grandmother’s house, where they continued to face mistreatment.
Despite their attempts to speak out, no one believed Tawinika and her siblings about the cruelty they endured from their grandmother.
Tawinika also lost her biological father, a police officer, at the age of six, compounding her early traumas.
Narrating, she said: “Many knows but many don’t, I lost my dad at age 6 and my mom you know she went to meet their father and had them and then when i was 14 she passed away and so life really got snatched from Under me and under them and we went on to live with a relative If you know you know i dont want to say it right now but we went on to live with a relative and life just wasn’t what it was supposed to be now for me it was great why because i was the first grandbaby and I had a different dad like I pretty much was spoiled but my sisters they were mistreated and so it bothered me alot because it was like I can hear my mom’s voice saying I raise you to protect them so you would i would be in my room and I’m hearing them getting beat on you know what i’m saying and it’s a conflict cuz you are not doing it to me but them you are doing it to them and as a kid it’s like what can i do to this adult and so my senior year it started to get like really bad at one point she flipped on me.

When asked if she was justified by her family relatives about their actions, she said: “Well she wouldn’t say that but yeah and also just a little background that my mom was taken from her, my mom was molested by the guy she was still married with in that house.”
At the age of 14, she stated that she knew what was going on when she went to the house after the death of her mother
“Yes my mom told me when i was 6 that she had been touched inappropriately” she said
When asked about how it was too much for a 6yr old girl like her to go through those stuffs, she said: “I think that was her way to just protect me at some point they got him out like they got him out of the house he left or whatever um this my mom was way ground so i was born he had left for a little bit and it was just my grandma and my auntie that wad there but he was in the house when i was a baby and tuff and thats where my mom was like i told your grandma he ain’t allowed to change your diapers she really had hate for this man like she tried to kill him a couple times as a child and as an adult, i dont know i remember riding on-the interstate in her blue camaro and she just talked to me that if anybody touched you then it went to what she experienced and with who and if something like that happened to me you know to tell her and it’s a story with that too because she didnt show up like i thought she wpuld … so all of this heaviness from what my mom doed with this person going into having to live with the same people.
When asked if she looked more of her mother or her sisters, she responded saying “Me”
Talking about her grandma behaviour towards them and the twins, she continued: “My dad was a police officer and their dad was a drug dealer who my mom met while he was half way out of prison so she changed and it was like they already had this block between them and then here comes this side is different and it was like no really no relationship after she start having more kids I really dont know i feel like they reminded her of my mom and i feel also that this should have been your second chance like god gave you like 4girls again to get it right he gave you 4 girls of children and you still turned around and did the same foolishness and so on my senior year, one morning now the one after me she came and she was like T um ebony which is the baby twin she was about to kill him last night but she said Grandma wouldn’t go to sleep and I’m like what and at this point, i had been talking to a social worker because my grandma had jumped on me and i hadnt told anybody she scratched me up and I can show you the pictures cuz it was right before homecoming i was on the court and it was one sunday i went to church and this woman never talked to me never approached me and she called me over and she was like are you okay?? And me i was very shut off like I you know scared to tell you know what I’m saying stuff and I just broke down and she was like take my number and i took her number and we began to text and i begin to share what was going on alot of people wouldn’t believe you know you have that person where they play like they look like cosby and she is actually on board to stuffs she is working in the church she is like one of the head ushers so like you have been in this church and doing all of this and people wouldn’t believe my sisters at school when they would go and share that they are being abused they didnt listen so the same thing that was happening to my mom when she was young was the same thing that besides molestattion but people were not listening what was going on and when she called me Um she gave me the number and i began to tell her what was going on and she was like document this stuff for me and i started taking pictures when they getting beaten all ths type of stuff taking videos so you can hear things like that and so my sister came and was like hey she was going to kill him last night now taking mine they were little and they were like in the 4th and 5th grade and i called the lady and was like listen my sister said she is about to kill him and she was is she did that y’all going to be in trouble and i’m like how are we going to get in trouble and i have been telling you this stuff for months now like i have been showing and she was like well i tell you what get the camera, bring it to school and i’m coming up there came up there got my camera I guess took it to the CPS People and they pretty much held my sisters in school and me i was 18 and i literally just turned 18 what i had on is what i had i had to find somewhere to go.”
When asked about where she went to since the CPS could not help her because she was 18, she said: “I went with my godmom and she literally ahd just come into my life around the time my mom like right before my mom passed, she was actually my first boyfriend sister and she was grown, she took a like into me, she took me like it’s my mom and she was going to try fight for us too in the very beginning but off-course they didn’t work so i went with her for a little bit and my sisters they got taken into CPS they were separated at first, i’m broken like you feel like you did the right thing but you feel like you did the wrng thing you know and now we are separated i can’t put my hands on them, i can’t talk to them and for the twins they got to stay together so the twins and the ones after me is a year apart but they got separated and then it also exposed them to all type of stuffs that they weren’t exposed to so they are getting changed in this system as well to be kids that they were not before.”
When asked at what age she took them and was able to get on her feet after everything, she said: ” i was 18, it was right before I turned 19 well i might have been 19 or just turned 19 cause i think i had jean at that point I had jean when i turned 19 March and i got them I want to say July so i was 19.”
She also revealed that during this time, she was able to take her siblings in her matrimonial home and her husband too was supportive towards her making this decision.
