I have the biggest Afro in the world, Grew it for 14yrs and I have no Plans cutting it

Aevin Dugas, a 38-year-old woman from Louisiana, holds the record for the world’s largest afro, measuring 4 feet 4 inches in circumference.

She has spent 14 years growing her hair and initially considered straightening it but ultimately decided to embrace its natural.

Aevin shared that her hair attracts a lot of attention in public, mostly positive, with people admiring rather than criticizing it. Her afro often covers her face, which she finds comforting.

Reflecting on her hair’s growth, she said, “The first measurement in 2010 was 4 feet 4 inches around. I’m not sure how big it could get, but I’ll try as long as I can.”

Her hairdresser, Toby, praised her hair, saying, “This is the greatest hair I have ever seen. It is natural and it is beautiful. Basically, Aevin inspired me to go natural.”

Aevin explained the extensive care routine her hair requires: “It takes a day and a half to dry, almost two days. People think I’m joking. I remember washing my hair on a Sunday, putting it in braids, and by Wednesday night, it was still damp.”

Regarding her hair’s impact on relationships, she mentioned, “If I see that we’re getting close and moving to another level, I’ll be like, ‘Oh, hey, by the way, I have really big hair.’ One guy was shocked when I told him. He googled me and said, ‘Oh wow,’ and the next time I saw him, he was wearing a fro.”

Aevin’s hometown reacted positively to her hair’s fame. “Everyone was just so proud of me. They kept saying, ‘You are a celebrity,’ and I would be like, ‘Do not call me that, I just have big hair.'”

When asked if she would ever cut her hair, Aevin responded, “No, I don’t think so. Straightening my hair wasn’t going to change who I am. I’m still Aevin.

“I’m still African American. As far as putting chemicals in my hair, what’s the point?”
