A man took his birthday celebration to the next level by climbing an active volcano, bringing along flowers, bread, and fruit as an offering.
In a video shared online, he appeared both emotional and excited after reaching the summit of Popocatépetl—apparently forgetting that it was still an active volcano.
The incident reportedly took place on March 12th at Popocatépetl, a 730,000-year-old volcano located about 45 miles southeast of Mexico City. The date holds historical meaning as it marks a tradition from the pre-Hispanic era when people would make offerings to the volcano in exchange for favors.
During this time of year, locals visit the volcano to bring flowers and food as part of a celebration honoring Gregorio Chino Popocatépetl, a man who claimed he could predict volcanic eruptions.
However, despite the cultural pratice, the man broke safety rules by climbing dangerously close to the high-risk area of the volcano while saying a prayer.
