Calabar High Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Raping 16-Year-Old Woman

A High Court sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, has sentenced a man, John Sunday Eyo, to life imprisonment after convicting him of r@ping a 16-year-old girl.

The judgment was delivered on July 21, 2026, by Hon. Justice Blessing Egwu, who found the defendant guilty after considering the evidence presented before the court.

The conviction marks the end of the legal proceedings in the case, with the court imposing a life sentence on the offender for the crime.

Reacting to the judgment, Basic Rights Council Initiatives (BRCI), the organization that handled the case, praised the efforts of everyone involved in ensuring justice was served.

The organization specifically commended the Cross River State Police Command for its diligent investigation and prosecution support. It also acknowledged the commitment of the Attorney General of Cross River State, Etubom Ededem Ani, and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr. Okoi Ukam, for their roles in securing justice in the matter.
