56-Year-Old Man Arrested for Dumping Refuse Into Drainage in Lagos

A 56-year-old man, John Ehidreme, has been arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce for allegedly dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.

The arrest was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who shared a video of the incident on Monday.

According to Wahab, indiscriminate waste disposal remains a serious violation of the state’s environmental laws, as it blocks drainage systems, contributes to flooding, and poses significant environmental and public health risks.

He stressed that residents must take responsibility for proper waste disposal and ensure they make use of only government-approved waste management facilities.

The commissioner also urged Lagos residents to comply with environmental regulations in order to keep the state clean and reduce the risk of flooding, especially during the rainy season.
