Nigerian Troops Repel ISWAP Attack in Borno, Recover Terrorist Camcorder Linked to Foreign Operatives
The operation, carried out by soldiers of the 19 Brigade under Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force North East, demonstrated the military’s continued efforts to prevent terrorist activities and strengthen security across Nigeria’s North-East region.
The attempted attack occurred at approximately 10:20 p.m. on July 11, 2026, when the insurgents reportedly tried to take advantage of the darkness to infiltrate the military position at Cross Kauwa.
Security sources indicated that one of the objectives of the attackers was to loot cholera-related medical supplies.
The incident adds to recent intelligence suggesting that disease outbreaks may be affecting terrorist camps, with reports alleging that some infected members have faced severe internal punishment.
Following the successful defence of the location, troops launched follow-up operations in the surrounding area to assess the impact of the engagement and search for items left behind by the fleeing insurgents.
Among the items recovered was a Sony camcorder, believed to have been carried by a terrorist responsible for documenting the group’s operations. The device reportedly contained video recordings of operational activities as well as propaganda materials.
According to preliminary forensic findings, the last footage recorded before the failed attack suggested that the operation involved four senior ISWAP commanders alongside three foreign facilitators believed to be supporting the terrorist network.
Investigators identified one of the foreign operatives as Abu Ishaq, described as a Palestinian serving as a trainer within the group. Another individual, identified as Abu Thaiba, is reportedly a Moroccan medical doctor working with the terrorist organisation. Authorities also mentioned a third Arab operative whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
The findings are expected to support ongoing intelligence efforts into the group’s international connections and operational structure.
Troops also recovered several items during the post-operation search, including:A Sony camcorder containing operational recordings.
PKT ammunition.
7.62 mm Special ammunition.
Terrorist uniforms.
Other combat-related equipment.
Military assessments supported by satellite imagery reportedly showed insurgents evacuating the bodies of some of those killed during the confrontation. Human intelligence sources also indicated that several other fighters sustained gunshot injuries before withdrawing from the area.
During the firefight, two Nigerian soldiers sustained gunshot wounds.
The injured personnel were immediately evacuated by air to receive advanced medical treatment. Military sources confirmed that both soldiers are in stable condition and responding to medical care.
The failed infiltration represents another setback for ISWAP as security forces continue sustained operations across the North-East.
Military authorities believe the latest outcome reflects the increasing difficulty terrorist groups face in launching coordinated attacks against well-prepared troops. Ongoing operations remain focused on disrupting terrorist networks, protecting civilian communities, and restoring lasting peace in affected parts of the region.

Troops of 19 Brigade, Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have decisively foiled an attempted infiltration by ISWAP terrorists into Cross Kauwa, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and forcing them to retreat in disarray.
The successful defence of the location further demonstrates the vigilance, combat readiness and operational effectiveness of troops who continue to deny terrorist elements freedom of action across the North East Theatre.
The failed attack occurred at about 2220 hours (10:20 p.m.) on 11 July 2026, when the terrorists attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the troops’ location. Alert troops swiftly detected the hostile movement and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, compelling the terrorists to abandon their mission of looting cholera medical supplies and withdraw in confusion after suffering severe losses. The attempted looting further lends credence to recent intelligence reports of a cholera outbreak within terrorist enclaves, as well as reports of the execution of some affected members by the group.
The neutralisation of a terrorist cameraman during the failed assault led to the recovery of a Sony camcorder containing highly sensitive recordings of terrorist activities, including operational footage and propaganda materials. Preliminary forensic analysis of the last available video recorded prior to the attack indicates that the operation was coordinated by four senior ISWAP commanders (Qai’ds), alongside three foreign terrorist facilitators.
They include a Palestinian Arab identified as Abu Ishaq, assessed to be ISWAP’s overall trainer; a Moroccan Arab identified as Abu Thaiba, a medical doctor serving within the terrorist network; and another Arab operative whose identity is yet to be established. The presence and active involvement of these foreign nationals further reinforces intelligence assessments that ISWAP continues to benefit from external support, specialist expertise and transnational terrorist linkages.
Following the successful engagement, troops immediately dominated the area and conducted exploitation operations to ascertain the full extent of the terrorists’ losses. During the operation, troops recovered the Sony camcorder, several rounds of PKT and 7.62 mm Special ammunition, terrorist uniforms and other combat enablers. Initial analysis of post-engagement satellite imagery revealed terrorists evacuating the bodies of some of their neutralised fighters during their withdrawal. This has since been corroborated by credible human intelligence sources, which confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties, with many others sustaining gunshot wounds during the engagement.
Two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds during the firefight and were promptly evacuated by air for advanced medical care. Both personnel remain in stable condition.
The failed infiltration attempt represents yet another significant operational setback for ISWAP and caps a costly weekend for the terrorist group following sustained offensive operations and intensified military pressure across the North East Theatre. The outcome underscores the increasing difficulty the terrorists face in executing coordinated attacks against highly alert and combat-ready troops, while further degrading their combat capability, morale and freedom of action. Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in sustaining offensive operations, protecting vulnerable communities and dismantling terrorist networks until lasting peace and security are fully restored across the North East.

Catholic Priest Pleads Guilty to 109 Child Sex Offences After Being Arrested and Charged to Court

Gallagher was arrested and later appeared before Londonderry Crown Court, where he admitted all 109 offences during a video-link hearing.
The offences relate to incidents involving male children between June 22, 2023, and April 18, 2025.

Gallagher also admitted 13 charges involving the possession of indecent images or photographs of male children, two charges of possessing prohibited images of children and one charge of possessing an extreme pornographic image.
The remaining offences included five charges of attempting to incite male children to engage in sexual acts, one charge of distributing or showing an indecent image of a child and one charge relating to an adult attempting to engage in a sexual act in the presence of a male child for sexual gratification.
Gallagher had initially faced 116 child sex offence charges when he appeared before Londonderry Magistrates’ Court in July.
He was later returned for trial at the Crown Court after prosecutors said there was a case to answer. The charges included sexual communication with children, possessing indecent images and inciting children under 16 to engage in sexual activity.
The case first came to public attention in April last year when Gallagher was confronted outside a hotel in the Waterside area of Derry by self-styled “paedophile hunters.”
Footage from the confrontation showed members of the group telling Gallagher that police had been informed about their concerns regarding his conduct with children.
The Diocese of Derry confirmed at the time that it was aware of the incident and that the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) had become involved.
Gallagher was subsequently arrested and charged with attempting to sexually communicate with a child between April 2 and April 17, 2025.
He appeared in court through a video link from Strand Road Police Station and was remanded in custody. A police officer told the court that investigators believed they could connect him to the charge.
As the investigation continued, police examined electronic devices and worked with other police services to identify and contact potential victims.
In October 2025, a court was told that detectives had completed their examination of the devices and that contacting potential victims could “potentially take a very long time”.
Originally from Londonderry, Gallagher served in several parishes across the Diocese of Derry.
Before his arrest, he was parish priest of Greencastle and Badoney Lower Parish in County Tyrone between 2015 and 2022 before later serving in Donegal.
At the time of his arrest, he was working as a curate at the Clonleigh, Camus and Leckpatrick parishes. The Diocese of Derry suspended him from ministry.
Gallagher was immediately placed on the Sex Offender’s Register and remains in custody.
He is due to be sentenced on December 9, with the court ordering a pre-sentencing report.
The Bishop of Derry, Michael Router, has also said he will petition the Vatican to have Gallagher permanently removed from the priesthood.
The bishop said the case had caused “immense distress” to victims and survivors, as well as parishioners, families, clergy and the wider community.
He said the Diocese would seek “the most serious penalty available under Church law” and described Gallagher’s conduct as a “radical betrayal” of the trust placed in priests.
The bishop also encouraged anyone who had experienced abuse or inappropriate behaviour to come forward.
Gallagher’s defence barrister, Stephen Mooney, told the court: “By his guilty pleas the facts of this case are what they are.”

According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office, David, his 62-year-old wife, Lora Grodnick, and their 24-year-old daughter, Sloane Grodnick, were found with gunshot wounds to the head at the family’s home on October 2.

Investigators determined that Lora and Sloane died in homicides, while David’s death was ruled a suicide. Authorities have not disclosed how long the three had been dead before they were discovered.
Police eventually gained entry into the home shortly before 6 p.m. the following day, where they discovered the three bodies.
Lora and Sloane were found in separate bedrooms, while David was discovered elsewhere inside the home with a gun still in his hand, prosecutors said.
The three family members were pronounced dead at the $1.75 million property.
“The investigation, which remains ongoing, has yielded that the homicide de@ths of both Lora and Sloane Grodnick were an isolated incident and there are no threats to the public from this tragic occurrence,” Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office said on Tuesday, October 6.
David Grodnick was a senior vice president and underwriting counsel for Land Services USA, a Philadelphia-based insurance agency that works on commercial real estate transactions across the country, according to the Montgomery News.
He earned a degree in business administration from the University of Miami and a BA in English from McDaniel College, where he also played lacrosse.
His daughter, Sloane, attended The Hun School, a private boarding school in Princeton, before graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She was pursuing a master’s degree at the Rhode Island School of Design.
The family had previously lived in Princeton before moving to Montgomery Township. They were also members of the Bedens Brook Country Club in Skillman and TPC Jasna Polana, a private club in Princeton.
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation, although authorities have said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

According to the information shared, Ćamile was born on August 19, 1909, while current title holder Ethel Caterham was born on August 21, 1909, meaning Mara could be older by two days if her records are successfully verified.

The British woman became the first person from Britain to reach the age of 117 and is currently recognised as the last validated person born before 1910.
However, Guinness World Records will need to examine Mara’s documents before any change can be made to the title. Until then, Ethel Caterham remains the officially recognised world’s oldest living person.
The discovery was reportedly made by TV journalist Blendi Fevziu, who said he plans to examine Mara’s baptism certificate and identity documents.
If the documents support her claimed date of birth, Fevziu plans to submit the evidence to Guinness World Records for verification.
He said: “The world’s oldest person lives in Albania.
“She was born 117 years and 39 days ago.”
Mara’s family has also spoken about the difficulties they have faced in proving her age. According to her relatives, officials once temporarily withheld her pension in 2023 while checks were carried out over her age.
Her son was required to present a formal proof-of-life certificate to authorities in Berat before the matter was resolved.
The Social Security Institute later explained that the delay was part of routine checks carried out on pensioners aged over 100, and her payment was eventually issued.
Despite receiving the pension, Mara’s son said the money is still not enough to cover her medical treatment and basic needs.
He also revealed that he cannot afford to provide additional financial support, while her other children have reportedly left the country.

The approval was announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X:
“President Donald J. Trump has approved death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a post on X.
“The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgement day for Hasan has finally come,” Parnell wrote.
During his trial, Hasan chose to represent himself. He did not call witnesses, give testimony or attempt to deny the charges. His court-appointed defense attorneys had previously expressed concerns that he appeared to be seeking the death penalty.
Hasan, a US-born Muslim of Palestinian descent, opened fire on November 5, 2009, at a medical facility inside Fort Hood, a major US military installation that served as a staging point for troops preparing for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Thirteen people were killed in the attack, while more than 30 others were wounded. Twelve of those killed and 30 of the wounded were soldiers.
Hasan was shot by a civilian police officer who responded to the scene and was left partially paralysed as a result of his injuries.
The former Army psychiatrist had opposed the US military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He had also communicated online with Anwar al-Awlaki, a radical cleric who was linked to Al-Qaeda and was later killed in a US drone strike in Yemen.
The latest decision brings Hasan’s long-running death sentence closer to being carried out, with the Secretary of the Army expected to determine the date and location of the execution.

The 36-year-old was booked into the St. Lucie County Jail on September 30 on a felony charge involving an offense against computer users. His bond was set at $35,000, according to sheriff’s office records.

The arrest follows a criminal case that had previously been closed before prosecutors brought a new computer-access charge against him.
Police documents describe complaints from two women who claimed their private information later appeared in Asea’s TikTok content.
In one case, investigators said Asea posted details about a woman’s electronic devices and appeared to claim knowledge of her recent online purchases.
“Let’s talk about your actual password,” he said, according to the police affidavit.
“How about we talk about the last 10 purchases you made online?”
The woman reportedly told investigators that the password had only been shared in a private TikTok group chat. She said Asea was not a member of the group, although she suspected he could have accessed it through a fake account.
She also told police that nobody in the group had permission to share the information outside the chat and said she did not know how Asea could have obtained her phone identification number or banking information.
Another woman reportedly told investigators that her concerns began after she sought technical assistance from Asea.
According to the complaint, she allowed him to remotely access her computer in October 2025 while he helped troubleshoot an application. Months later, she claimed Asea told her that he had placed a virus on the computer while she was away from it, which he allegedly said allowed him to view information without her knowledge.
The woman said she had never authorized such access.
Investigators also examined a photograph from a private Telegram conversation that later appeared in one of Asea’s TikTok posts.
According to the affidavit, Asea claimed in a comment that the image came from a WhatsApp conversation. However, the woman reportedly provided police with a screenshot showing that the photograph had originally been sent through a private Telegram message.
Police also documented comments in which Asea appeared to discuss locating the woman through her phone.
“Thanks to the GPS within her phone, but what did I do?” he said in the video, according to the affidavit.
Investigators said Asea published more than 100 TikTok videos mentioning one of the women, sometimes uploading as many as six videos in a single day.
Authorities also said he obtained a website where he posted a photograph of the woman getting a tattoo.
Asea’s TikTok biography identifies him as a “Demonologist,” “Clairsentient,” “Empath,” “PTSD,” “Grey Hat Hacker” and “Woodsman.”
An earlier biography documented in the April police affidavit also described him as a “former satanist” and “cybersecurity engineer.”
The case comes after Asea was also involved in a separate civil stalking protection case during the summer.
A woman obtained a temporary injunction against him in July. However, the judge later dissolved the injunction and dismissed the case on September 8.
Prosecutors reopened the criminal matter on September 24 and filed the current charge involving unauthorized access to a computer or electronic device.
Court records cited in the case do not explain why
The case was heard before Chief Magistrate C.J. Nkwoada, who sentenced Okon after she admitted to the offence when she was arraigned by the police.

During the proceedings, the prosecution counsel, Sampson Obodo, presented photographs showing the injuries suffered by the teenager.
He also tendered statements made to the police by the complainant and the victim, as well as a statement from the Stand For Humanity Foundation, the human rights organisation that initiated the process leading to Okon’s arrest.
Before passing sentence, the court gave Okon an opportunity to plead for mercy. She asked the court to have mercy on her.
Her lawyer, Innocent Onyekwere, also appealed to the court to be lenient when sentencing his client.
Okon was arrested following a petition filed by the Stand For Humanity Foundation over the incident.
The organisation’s president, Chidiebube Okeoma, led more than 20 members to the court on Friday and spoke to journalists about the case.
Okeoma, a journalist and child rights advocate, said the organisation initiated the arrest to remind members of the public that child abuse is a punishable offence under the law.
He added that the conviction and six-month prison sentence should serve as a lesson to people who abuse children.

Police said the incident happened at Cibelle’s Houston home. She and her daughter were both taken to hospital, but Cibelle later died from her injuries.
The tragedy came after a lengthy custody dispute between Cibelle and Aaron, who divorced in 2024 after four years of marriage.
Reports stated that the latest custody decision came about eight hours before the shooting.
Under the reported court order, Vivian was placed in her father’s primary care. Cibelle was also restricted from speaking Portuguese with her daughter unless a supervisor present could speak the language.
The court order reportedly also prevented her from attending Vivian’s school performances and extracurricular activities. She was ordered to pay child support and cover half of the child’s out-of-pocket medical expenses.
The reason Cibelle faced the restrictions was not immediately clear from the available reports.
Following the tragedy, Vivian’s relatives released an emotional statement describing the young girl and the impact of her death on the family.
They said:
“Vivian was 4 years old. She was loved without limit by her father, Aaron, and by everyone whose life she touched. There are no words for what has been taken from us.
“Aaron did everything the law asks of a parent who is trying to protect his child. He trusted the courts.
“He followed every order. He waited for the process to work. On Tuesday, a judge placed Vivian in his primary care, and she was supposed to come home to him that evening. She never did.”
Charlotte Rainwater, the lawyer who represented Aaron Savella, also expressed shock over the outcome.
She said:
“the family is devastated by this outcome,”
Rainwater added:
“I’ve been practicing family law for 28 years and have never experienced anything like this.
“I don’t think anyone in this courtroom on Tuesday contemplated this could be the outcome.”
