Mrs. Alamu Folawe, the vice principal who was abducted alongside other victims in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has appealed to Nigerians to stop spreading what she described as false reports about the demands of their captors.
In a video released while still in captivity, Folawe expressed concern over media reports claiming that the kidnappers were demanding a huge ransom, weapons, or the implementation of Sharia law.
According to her, the reports are inaccurate and only serve to complicate efforts aimed at securing their freedom.
Speaking in the video, she said:

South African Man Sentenced to Two Life Terms for Rape and Murder of 8-Year-Old Girl

Nkosana entered into a plea agreement in which he admitted to the offences and accepted responsibility for the killing.

During the proceedings, Nkosana admitted that he knew Veronique and had seen her playing with other children.
According to the plea agreement, he offered to give her money if she accompanied him to a room belonging to one of his relatives.
He then admitted to undressing Veronique and s#xually assaulting her without her consent.

According to his admission, he later became overwhelmed by fear and shock and strangled Veronique until she became unresponsive and died.
He acknowledged that he knew strangling her could result in death but continued with the act.
Evidence presented during the case included DNA recovered from Veronique during her medical examination and from her clothing. Investigators also recovered fingerprints linking Nkosana to the scene.
The plea agreement recorded that Nkosana had no previous convictions. He was unmarried and had a four-year-old daughter who lives with her mother.
He had completed Grade 10 and earned money through odd jobs while contributing towards his daughter’s maintenance. He also sold raw meat for a neighbour.
Although the court was told that Nkosana acknowledged the seriousness of his actions and expressed remorse, the circumstances of the crime were considered too serious for his personal circumstances to outweigh the interests of society.
Nkosana accepted that there were no substantial and compelling circumstances that would justify reducing the prescribed minimum sentences.
The State and his legal representative, Mxolisi Moolman, agreed to a sentence of three years for housebreaking with intent to rape and murder, alongside life imprisonment for rape and life imprisonment for murder.
The agreement also stated that after entering into the plea agreement under Section 105A of the Criminal Procedure Act, Nkosana could not appeal the conviction or sentence imposed under the agreement.

Speaking to journalists, investigating officer Warrant Officer Mbulelo Grootboom, attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and S#xual Offences (FCS) unit, said he was satisfied with the conviction following the investigation conducted by his team.
Grootboom said the State had strong evidence that could have resulted in a conviction even if Nkosana had not pleaded guilty.
He particularly credited the forensic team for helping investigators build the case.
“If any case is conducted correctly by those involved, it becomes easier to get a conviction,” he said.
“When I arrested him, Nkosana was wearing the same clothes he wore when he killed the victim. We managed to swab the clothes and lift the DNA of the victim.”
Grootboom revealed that he kept a photograph of Veronique on his desk as a reminder of the responsibility he had to pursue justice for her family.
“I do this to remind myself of the brutally m8rdered child’s family who deserves justice. I would follow up on all outstanding information related to the case to say that I have at least done something today. It is not easy to see the photo daily, as it reminds me of the crime scene I witnessed, but it keeps me motivated,” he said.
He also welcomed the decision to have Nkosana’s name included in the National Sex Offenders’ Register.
“To me, this conviction sends a serious message out there to the perpetrators of such gruesome acts,” he said.
Veronique’s mother, Destiny, said that although she had wanted to see justice served, the conviction could not erase the pain caused by the loss of her daughter.
Speaking to the Express, she described the sentencing as an important moment for the family and said she hoped it would serve as a reminder that those responsible for such crimes can be held accountable.

“As a woman in this month, I feel brave that I have made it out of this case, stronger than I was before. I am glad the sentencing happened this month, as a statement to remind those who would do something like this that justice will prevail,” she said.

According to Trump, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had established a back channel with his administration as efforts to maintain communication continued.
Describing the Iranians as difficult negotiators, Trump said:
“They’re good poker players, but they’re dying. I have no time schedule. I’m not in a hurry.”
Trump Warns Oman Over Strait of Hormuz
Trump also addressed Oman’s involvement in negotiations surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway that plays a major role in international oil transportation.
Oman has been involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at finding a way to reopen the waterway and ease tensions surrounding the conflict.
However, Trump issued a direct warning when discussing the possibility of Oman interfering with American objectives.
He told reporters:
“If Oman gets in the way, we’ll bomb the s*** out of them.”
The unusually harsh warning comes as relations between the United States and Iran remain tense and efforts to reach a lasting agreement continue.

The 60-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran is due to expire, raising concerns that hostilities could intensify once again.
The situation has become increasingly tense, with both countries maintaining firm positions over the issues at the centre of the conflict.
The Iranian military has also reportedly announced financial rewards for anyone who kills or kidnaps American soldiers in the region, further raising concerns about the safety of US personnel.
The United States does not currently have ground troops deployed inside Iran, although American military operations in the region have continued through air strikes.
The conflict has now entered its fifth month, with efforts to establish a permanent peace agreement facing serious difficulties.
Earlier this month, senior US military officials reportedly asked analysts to provide new ideas on ways the United States could increase pressure on Iran.

Couples Found Dead Just Hours After Moving Into Their New Home
The couple, identified as Patrick Mwangi, 28, and Jackline Wambui, 25, had reportedly been together for about three years before deciding to begin living together.
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M
They were married on August 9, 2026, but their marriage lasted only a few hours before tragedy struck.
According to reports, Wambui arrived at their new home at around 4pm that afternoon, where Mwangi was waiting for her. The couple later left together on Mwangi’s motorcycle and returned at about 7pm.
Their bodies were subsequently discovered at the property, although the exact circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unknown.
Murang’a County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed that the deaths are being investigated.
According to accounts from family members, the couple’s relationship had been marked by a strong but sometimes turbulent attachment.
Mwangi’s mother, Bilha Wangare, said she had previously been involved in several attempts to help the couple resolve their disagreements.
“It was a love that seemed almost like a spell. They shared an intense passion that was hard to fathom. I took part in many mediation meetings to help them forgive each other. I think the term that fits them best is ‘foolish lovers'”
Their disagreements reportedly included issues involving finances, lifestyle choices and their expectations within the relationship.
Wambui reportedly felt that Mwangi did not take her out often enough, while Mwangi accused her of taking KSh 100,000 from him.
Wambui also reportedly objected to the financial assistance Mwangi provided to his parents.
She had separately asked him to transfer ownership of his motorcycle and the title deed to a 0.1-acre plot of land he had purchased in Makuyu, Maragua, according to the report.
On August 4, Wangare reportedly organised a reconciliation meeting in an attempt to resolve the couple’s differences.
During the meeting, Mwangi said he wanted Wambui to have his child before they moved into their new home, while Wambui remained focused on securing the property documents.
The two eventually reached an agreement.
Mwangi agreed to establish a business for Wambui at Irembu Market, while she agreed to try to conceive.
However, after Wambui left the meeting, Mwangi reportedly gave the property documents to his mother, telling her that he did not trust Wambui.
On August 6, Wambui reportedly contacted Wangare and told her that she had decided to proceed with the move and would arrive on August 9.
She arrived that afternoon, and Mwangi was reportedly waiting for her.
The couple later went out together on his motorcycle and returned at about 7pm.
Wangare later said she noticed that Wambui appeared tired, drowsy and intoxicated when they returned.
Shortly afterwards, Mwangi reportedly went into his parents’ house and said goodbye to his family.
According to Wangare, he told her that Wambui had posted a photograph of another man on social media and had also sent the photograph directly to him.
He reportedly said Wambui had told him that she would leave him for the man if he did not treat her properly.
After Mwangi left, Wangare reportedly became concerned and went outside with a torch to check on the couple.
She made a devastating discovery when she found Mwangi hanging behind the house.
Neighbours subsequently entered the couple’s home and found Wambui dead inside.
The circumstances surrounding both deaths remain under investigation, and authorities have not announced a confirmed cause of death.
Wambui’s aunt, Tabitha Njoki, said the family was struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Wambui reportedly leaves behind a five-year-old daughter.
“She told me she was moving in to get married. I did not know that the marriage would last only three hours. May God have mercy on us,” Njoki said.

Nevada Man Pleads Guilty After Buying 140 Firearms for Mexican Drug-Trafficking Organizations, Faces Up to 70 Years in Prison
A Nevada man has pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges after admitting that he purchased high-powered firearms and ammunition intended for people connected to drug-trafficking organizations in Mexico.
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M
The man, identified as Luis Alberto Osorio, entered his guilty plea on Friday after prosecutors said he conspired with co-defendants between April 2020 and September 2025 to acquire firearms, magazines and ammunition that were intended to be sold across the border for profit.

According to court documents, approximately 140 firearms were purchased as part of the scheme. Prosecutors said the weapons were intended for individuals affiliated with violent Mexican drug-trafficking organizations.
The firearms involved included several powerful rifles, including the Ohio Ordnance Works M2-SLR .50 BMG, Barrett M82A1 and M107A1 .50 BMG anti-materiel rifles, as well as the FN Herstal M249S 5.56x45mm and FN Herstal SCAR 17S 7.62x51mm rifles.
Authorities said the weapons were acquired as part of an illegal trafficking operation in which firearms would ultimately be moved south of the United States border and sold for financial gain.
In addition to the firearms-related offences, Osorio admitted during the proceedings that he had employed people illegally in the United States at a mining company in Nevada.
He pleaded guilty to one count of straw purchasing of firearms, one count of trafficking in firearms, one count of harboring certain aliens and one count of conspiracy to launder money.
If convicted on all the charges, Osorio could face a maximum sentence of up to 70 years in prison.
His sentencing is expected to take place by February 2027.

In a statement released by First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada, prosecutors stressed the dangers posed by firearms trafficking networks supplying violent criminal organizations.
“Firearms trafficking networks feed the violent cartels that terrorize border communities and pump illicit drugs into our neighborhoods.
“By cutting off this supply chain and holding this defendant accountable, we are directly disrupting the operational capabilities of these dangerous criminal organizations.

He Had Always Been Targeting Women on Tinder – Nigerian Man Arrested in Kenya After Women Accuse Him of Rape and Secretly Recording Them
A Nigerian national has been arrested in Kenya following allegations from several women who reportedly accused him of sexual assault, secretly recording them and subjecting them to physical violence.
The arrest was disclosed by a Facebook user identified as Geoffrey Mosiria KE, who said he had received multiple complaints concerning the man.
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M
According to Mosiria, the suspect allegedly met women through social media and dating platforms, including Tinder, before inviting them to his short-stay apartment.
Mosiria said the complaints prompted authorities to work with officers from Parklands Police Station to arrest the Nigerian national.
During the operation, investigators reportedly recovered four laptops, iPads and several mobile phones from the suspect. The electronic devices were confiscated and are expected to assist authorities as they investigate the allegations.
In his statement, Mosiria wrote:
According to the information we received, the man is a Nigerian national who had been living in the USA and had recently travelled to Kenya. He is alleged to have been targeting women through social media and dating platforms such as Tinder before inviting them to his short-stay apartment.

Working together with police officers from Parklands Police Station, the man was arrested. During the operation, four laptops, iPads and several mobile phones were recovered and confiscated to assist with the ongoing investigations.
As investigations continue, I am appealing to any woman or anyone else who may have been assaulted, sexually abused, threatened, recorded without consent or otherwise victimised by this individual to come forward and report to Parklands Police Station. Your information could be crucial in helping investigators establish the full extent of the allegations and ensure that justice is served.
I also want to caution our young Kenyan women to be extremely careful when meeting people they have connected with through dating apps and social media. Avoid meeting strangers in private apartments or unfamiliar places, especially when you have not known them for long. Always let someone you trust know where you are going, share your location and, where possible, arrange the first meeting in a safe and public place.
Your safety comes first. Never allow anyone to pressure, threaten or force you into anything against your will. Stay vigilant and protect yourselves”

Colombia Earthquake Survivor Loses Triplet Sisters, Parents and Uncle After Apartment Building Collapses
The survivor, identified as Ana María Saavedra, was the first-born of the triplets and the only one to survive the collapse of the family’s four-storey apartment building in Cali, Colombia.
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M

Her sisters, Sofía and Isabella, both 23, died alongside their father, Jairo Saavedra, their mother, Victoria Caicedo, and their uncle, Diego Caicedo, after the building came down following Monday’s 7.4-magnitude earthquake.
Speaking to Semana News, Carlos explained that the door ultimately protected her from the full force of the debris.

“The door protected her from the debris” he said
He said Ana María’s younger triplet sister, Sofía, was discovered beneath the rubble about four hours after Ana María was rescued.
Rescue workers, joined by volunteers, continued searching through the wreckage in the hope of finding Isabella alive.
Sadly, Isabella’s body was eventually recovered on Thursday evening.
In an interview with Blu Radio, Carlos said Ana María was able to tell the family what she remembered from the moments before the earthquake struck.

According to her account, her father was taking a shower while her mother was in their room waiting for her turn. Their uncle, Diego, was reportedly waiting for Jairo to finish a work-related task for a US-based company they worked for.
Carlos explained how Ana María managed to survive as the building collapsed.
“So, what Ana María says is that the two triplets who died were ahead of her, already going down the stairs, and when the earthquake hit, Ana María was coming out, and the apartment door, made of very fine cedar, fell on top of her,”
“It shielded her from the rubble, and she was crushed, but with her head sticking out. Then she started screaming, and the neighbors came out within five minutes. Because the building tilted forward, she fell onto the sidewalk, into the street. Then the neighbors managed to hear her and removed her.”

After being rescued, Ana María was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency medical treatment.
She underwent surgery on Wednesday for a pelvic fracture sustained during the collapse.
On Thursday, she was informed that her two sisters, parents and uncle had all died in the collapse.
