British influencer Brooke George has been charged with murder in Dubai following the death of a British man she reportedly met through social media.

Brooke is accused of fatally stabbing Bill Treeby during an incident in the UAE. However, she maintains that she acted in self-defence after allegedly being subjected to repeated physical assaults.

The 23-year-old is currently being held at Bur Dubai prison while investigations continue. Reports indicate that she could face severe penalties if convicted under local laws.

According to Brooke, she met Treeby on Facebook and initially travelled with him to Dubai for a week-long trip, which she described as an enjoyable experience.

However, she claims that during a second visit, his behaviour changed significantly. Brooke alleged that he became controlling and abusive and that she later discovered he had only purchased a one-way ticket for her, leaving her concerned about her ability to return home.

She further claimed that after a night out at McCafferty’s Bar in Jumeirah Village, Treeby became intoxicated and assaulted her both in a vehicle and later at their apartment.

According to her family, Brooke contacted them in a distressed state after the incident and appeared visibly injured.

Her relatives said she had arranged a flight home with assistance from friends and returned to the apartment only to retrieve her passport before leaving the country.

Brooke alleges that while attempting to recover the document, she was attacked again and feared for her life. She claims she reached for a kitchen knife and acted in self-defence.

She was arrested on June 22 after police stopped her at Dubai International Airport.

Human rights organisation Detained in Dubai has called on authorities to investigate the case as a possible domestic violence incident and to consider granting Brooke bail while the investigation is ongoing.

The organisation’s CEO, Radha Stirling, said:

“She reached for a knife after being attacked and punched in the face. Authorities must treat her as a domestic violence survivor while they investigate.”

The group also alleged that Brooke faced difficulties accessing legal assistance and consular support following her detention.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed that British officials are in contact with the detained woman, her family, and local authorities.

Brooke’s mother, Thereza, said her daughter appeared frightened and emotionally distressed when they spoke after the incident.

She said:

“When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably.

“I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”

Detained in Dubai has urged investigators to fully examine Brooke’s allegations of abuse and ensure she receives appropriate legal representation, medical care, and a fair trial.

The case remains under investigation.

A DNA test has confirmed that the unidentified body discovered at a mortuary in Ikorodu, Lagos, belongs to journalist Pelumi Onifade, who went missing after his reported arrest during the #EndSARS protests in 2020.

Onifade, whose full name was Pelumi Emmanuel Onifade, was covering the protests against police brutality on October 24, 2020, when he was reportedly arrested by police officers in the Agege area of Lagos.

According to reports, he identified himself as a journalist and was wearing clothing that clearly indicated he was a member of the press at the time of his arrest.

Days after his disappearance, an unidentified body was deposited at a mortuary in Ikorodu, raising concerns that it could be Onifade. However, the remains were not officially identified, leaving his family searching for answers for several years.

In July 2024, a Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the Lagos State Government to conduct a coroner’s inquest into the circumstances surrounding his death. The court also directed the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to carry out a post-mortem examination on the unidentified body.

LASUTH later explained that efforts to identify the remains had been delayed after DNA samples stored at the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre were destroyed during the October 2020 #EndSARS unrest.

Following years of legal proceedings, a fresh DNA test was eventually conducted using a sample provided by Onifade’s mother.

The magistrate presiding over the case disclosed that the results confirmed a DNA match between the unidentified body and the sample submitted by his mother, officially establishing the identity of the deceased nearly six years after he went missing.

The confirmation brings an end to years of uncertainty for Onifade’s family, who have continued to seek answers and justice since his disappearance.

The family’s legal representatives are now requesting a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and help establish the circumstances surrounding the case.

The matter has been adjourned until July 7, 2026, for further proceedings.

An inquest has revealed that builder Adrian Raileanu was facing significant personal difficulties, including drug and gambling debts, in the period leading up to his death in a fire at a derelict seaside property in Newquay, United Kingdom.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 4:35pm, where firefighters worked to bring the flames under control before discovering his body inside the building.

Although a man was initially arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident, he was later released on bail as investigations continued.

During the inquest held on 22 June, it was heard that Raileanu had been dealing with increasing pressure from financial and personal struggles. Reports indicated that he had accumulated substantial debts related to gambling and drug use.

CCTV footage reportedly showed him entering the former hotel through the back entrance at around 3pm and not leaving the building afterwards.

Detective Constable Stephen Carroll, who led the investigation, told the court that on the morning of his death, Raileanu had walked into Newquay Police Station and asked what he needed to do to be put in prison.

“He walked into the police station and asked what he needed to do to be arrested,” he said.

“He spoke with officers and explained his situation, including his drug addiction and debts. He was offered support but declined it.”

Senior Coroner Andrew Cox of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly stated that Raileanu had travelled from London to Newquay for construction work and had been struggling with depression and mounting financial pressure.

He concluded that it was more likely than not that Raileanu intended to take his own life.

Following the tragedy, family and friends expressed deep grief over his passing. His mother later launched a fundraising appeal in his memory, describing him as a loving father and hardworking man whose death has left a painful void.

A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to share a video showing herself and her friends trekking through a forest on their way to Côte d’Ivoire.

In the video, she explained that they have spent about three days navigating through the bush as part of their journey.

She also used the moment to respond to people who often complain about not receiving financial support from her, suggesting that they do not understand the conditions she is currently facing.

She said:

“Una dey complain say dem no dey send una money una don see am una dey house dey enjoy una life we inside forest, the forest we no know ehere we for dey come, the forest deep”

She added that the journey has been extremely difficult, stressing that those who assume she is in a position to provide financial help are not aware of her present circumstances.

According to her, the route they took is challenging, and she is currently unable to offer financial support as she is focused on surviving the journey.

A young Nigerian woman has reportedly lost her life after being trafficked to Mali, according to information shared on social media.

The incident was brought to public attention by Facebook user Zege Orkwande, who posted about the woman’s death and raised concerns about human trafficking involving Nigerian women.

In his post, he also shared a photograph of an individual he alleged was involved in trafficking women from Nigeria to Mali.

A man has drawn attention on social media after sharing his views on the Fulani community and the security challenges affecting many parts of the country.

In a video circulating online, the man stated that the majority of Fulani people are law-abiding citizens who do not engage in criminal activities.

According to him, many innocent Fulani individuals also live in fear of insecurity and face the same dangers as other Nigerians.

While recording the video, he explained that he was in a bush area and expressed concern about the possibility of encountering bandits.

He said:

Al Jazeera cameraman Ahmed Wishah has been killed in Gaza following a strike that hit a house in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza on Saturday.

According to reports, Wishah was among those killed when the strike targeted the residential building in the camp.

In a statement, Al Jazeera condemned the killing of its journalist, describing it as an attack on press freedom and the work of media professionals in conflict zones.

The network said:

“This constitutes a new and flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, and reflects a continued systematic policy of targeting journalists and silencing the voice of truth.”

Wishah’s death comes months after the death of his brother, who was reportedly killed in April 2025 during an Israeli shelling incident while travelling in his vehicle, according to Palestinian civil defence authorities.

Following the strike, the Israeli military confirmed carrying out the operation but alleged that Wishah was affiliated with Hamas.

“The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) confirms it carried out a strike on Ahmed Wishah, who was a Hamas terrorist,” a military spokesperson told AFP.

A South African woman has been sentenced to a total of 130 years in prison after being found guilty of multiple drug-related offences involving cocaine in Sierra Leone.

The judgment was delivered by the High Court of Sierra Leone, presided over by Justice Andrew S.C. Johnson, who convicted 37-year-old Asandra Denise on five counts linked to the unlawful possession, transportation, and importation of cocaine.

Denise, a resident of Nenvonds in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Province, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Drugs, Dealing in Prohibited Drugs, Collecting Prohibited Drugs, Importing Prohibited Drugs, and Transporting Prohibited Drugs under the National Drugs Control Act, 2008.

According to court records, she was arrested at Freetown International Airport in Lungi after authorities allegedly discovered 365 pellets of cocaine weighing approximately 5.4 kilograms in her possession without lawful authority.

She pleaded not guilty to all charges during the trial.

To support its case, the prosecution presented three witnesses, including forensic toxicologist Joseph Lahai, who testified that laboratory analysis confirmed that samples taken from the seized substances tested positive for Cocaine Hydrochloride.

Defence counsel Ibrahim Samba informed the court that his client chose to rely on her statement to the police and would not be calling any witnesses to testify on her behalf.

After reviewing the evidence, Justice Johnson ruled that the prosecution had successfully proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

“I am satisfied that the Prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt,” the judge stated before finding Denise guilty on all five counts.

The court handed down the following sentences:

• Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Drugs – 10 years imprisonment
• Dealing in Prohibited Drugs – 30 years imprisonment
• Collecting Prohibited Drugs – 30 years imprisonment
• Importing Prohibited Drugs – 30 years imprisonment
• Transporting Prohibited Drugs – 30 years imprisonment

Although the combined sentences amount to 130 years, the court ordered that all terms be served concurrently, meaning they will run at the same time rather than one after another. The sentence takes effect from the date she was first remanded in custody.

Justice Johnson also ordered that the cocaine and all related exhibits be forfeited to the state and destroyed in the presence of the appropriate authorities.

Popular Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has been recognized as a Guinness World Records ICON.

Announcing the recognition, Guinness World Records highlighted Hilda’s inspiring journey from helping at her mother’s restaurant as a child to becoming one of Nigeria’s most celebrated chefs.

In a statement shared by Guinness World Records, it wrote:

The organization noted that Hilda began her culinary journey while still in primary school, assisting at her mother’s restaurant in Abuja.

Reflecting on those early years, Hilda said:

“I always got so many tips because I used to memorize the whole menu and I was very sharp-mouthed!”

Although she studied sociology in college and explored different career paths, including television hosting and acting, her passion for cooking eventually led her back to the kitchen.

She became a professional chef in 2020 and later launched her restaurant, Hilda’s Kitchen, now known as My Food by Hilda. Through her cooking content and recipe-sharing online, she built a strong social media presence that attracted millions of followers.

Speaking on the lessons she has learned throughout her career, Hilda said:

“Consistency beats talent. Systems beat hustle. And humility keeps you growing.”

Hilda gained global attention in 2023 when she attempted the longest cooking marathon in Lekki, Lagos. During the challenge, she cooked continuously for 93 hours and 11 minutes between May 11 and May 15, drawing support from thousands of fans both in Nigeria and around the world.

According to Guinness World Records, the demand for updates during the attempt was so high that their website experienced disruptions due to the volume of traffic from supporters.

While the record has since been surpassed, Guinness World Records noted that Hilda had already made a lasting impact through her achievement.

In September 2025, she added another record to her accomplishments when she partnered with Gino Nigeria to create the largest serving of rice. The record-breaking dish weighed 8,780 kilograms and was prepared in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The massive jollof rice meal was made using thousands of kilograms of rice, fresh goat meat, and Hilda’s signature jollof pepper mix. More than 16,600 portions were later distributed, ensuring that none of the food went to waste.

Speaking about her love for food, Hilda shared:

“I love rice. Truly. I could eat rice dishes every single day for a year and not get tired of it. Late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has been laid to rest in his hometown of Arochukwu, Abia State.

The burial ceremony took place on Thursday, June 18, at the Mary Slessor School Field in Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, where family members, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects.

Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, following a battle with metastatic kidney cancer.

His funeral activities began earlier this week with a wake-keep ceremony before the final burial rites were held in his hometown.
