12-year-old girl dies after getting stuck in a swimming pool as her hair is trapped in the drain

A 12-year-old girl has tragically lost her life following a swimming pool accident in Brazil.

The victim, Laura Pereira Camargo, was reportedly playing with friends when her hair became trapped in a pool drain at a residence in Mirassol on April 17.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly before she was pulled from the water. She was given immediate first aid and rushed to a medical facility in cardiac arrest. Although responders were able to revive her, she was later transferred in critical condition to a hospital in São José do Rio Preto.

Despite efforts by medical professionals, her condition worsened as she developed multiple organ failure and bacterial pneumonia.

After fighting for her life for two days, she sadly passed away on Sunday, April 19.

Her funeral and burial are scheduled to take place in Mirassol.

Authorities have classified the incident as an accidental death and are currently reviewing the safety conditions of the pool involved.

Laura was the only child of her family and was described as deeply loved. She was also the daughter and granddaughter of deacons at the Christian Congregation in Brazil.

A talented piano player, she had recently celebrated her parents’ 20th wedding anniversary with them. Her father, Elias, once described her as “our special gift from God” in a heartfelt social media post
