Former Deputy Sheriff, Amarachukwu Igwe Arrested for Attempted Dr£g Smuggling into Detention Center

A former deputy sheriff, Amarachukwu Igwe, has been arrested and charged for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs into a detention facility.

Igwe was taken into custody on April 4 at the Alexandria Adult Detention Center after authorities said she tried to bring illegal substances to an inmate.

According to reports, she was apprehended before the drugs could be delivered.

Following her arrest, Igwe was charged with drug possession, delivery of drugs to a prisoner, and conspiracy.

Reacting to the incident, Sean Casey commended the efforts of the department’s investigative team for uncovering the alleged misconduct.

“I commend the diligent work of our Investigations, Professionalism & Oversight Section whose proactive efforts uncovered this criminal conduct before it could jeopardize the safety of our staff or the residents of the Detention Center,” he said.

“I have zero tolerance for actions that undermine the security of our facility and those who violate the public trust placed in them will face the full consequences of their actions.”
