Fresh Viol£nc£ Erupts in Plateau Days After T£rrorist Attack

Barely 48 hours after a deadly attack and the imposition of a curfew in Plateau State, nigeria fresh violence has erupted in Jos North Local Government Area, leaving several people dead and others critically injured.

The latest incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday in Anguwan Rukuba, the same area affected during the earlier attack on Palm Sunday.

According to SaharaReporters, eyewitnesses said the violence began early in the morning near the Anguwan Rukuba junction, close to UNA Primary School. Armed youths reportedly wielding sticks, machetes, and other weapons were said to have attacked residents indiscriminately.

During the chaos, stones were allegedly thrown into homes, forcing families to flee in fear.

One resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation as dire:

“Urgent security attention is needed. As I speak, youths are carrying weapons and attacking anyone they see. People are running into their houses, screaming for help. The fear is unbearable.”

Security forces were later deployed to the area, which helped to reduce tensions.

However, one of the injured victims, identified as Alkasim Umar, reportedly died at the hospital.

Another resident mourned his passing, saying:

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Alkasim was a kind man, now gone. We need lasting peace in this community. Enough blood has been shed.”

Meanwhile, some community leaders and residents have criticized the state government, alleging that the curfew was relaxed too soon without adequate security measures in place.

“The government relaxed the curfew too soon and without adequate security. People are dying because of negligence. The governor should answer for this,” a local elder said.
