Woman Undergoes Second Surgery After Surgical Cloth Found Stitched Inside her Abdom£n

A woman identified as Sheeba Pramod has undergone a second surgery after doctors discovered a surgical cloth left inside her abdom£n following a previous operation.

Sheeba had earlier undergone an emergency appendectomy at CSI Mission Hospital on December 3. She was discharged nine days later, but her recovery did not go as expected.

According to reports, Sheeba endured nearly three months of severe pain and mental distress after the procedure. Her wound reportedly failed to heal properly, leading to persistent discomfort and what she described as “unbearable agony.”

As her condition failed to improve, she decided to seek a second medical opinion at another private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.

Diagnostic scans carried out at the new hospital revealed a troubling cause for her ongoing health problems.

Doctors reportedly discovered a foreign object inside her abdomen. The object was later identified as a surgical cloth or gauze that had been left behind during the earlier operation.

The cloth had been stitched inside her abdominal cavity and had caused a small perforation at the wound site.

Following the discovery, Sheeba returned to the original hospital where doctors performed another procedure to remove the cloth. Images taken after the removal reportedly showed the cloth heavily stained with blood.

Senior staff members at the hospital said they were unaware of how the cloth ended up inside the patient’s body. According to their explanation, the cloth may have been left during a visit to other medical facilities where Sheeba had sought treatment for pain relief.

However, Sheeba’s family has rejected the hospital’s explanation and is demanding accountability for the incident.

A formal complaint has been filed with the Chief Minister’s office requesting a high-level investigation into the matter.

“We want strict action against those responsible for three months of needless suffering,” Sheeba said.

The family has also begun pursuing legal action against the hospital, alleging medical malpractice and negligence.
