Video goes viral as it shows coffins being swept through the streets during a heavy flood in Brazil

A video has gone viral after capturing the moment dozens of coffins were swept through the streets of Ubá during a powerful flash flood.

The shocking incident occurred in the municipality of Ubá, located in Minas Gerais, as extreme rainfall caused floodwaters to surge through the area. In the footage, coffins can be seen floating rapidly down the road while the cameraperson repeatedly exclaims, “My god”, clearly stunned by the scene.

Reports confirmed that the severe weather led to seven deaths in Ubá, with the incident said to have occurred on February 23.

The flooding has had devastating consequences across the wider region. Authorities revealed that at least 29 people have died across Minas Gerais, while 45 individuals remain missing following the extreme weather conditions.

In another hard-hit area, the city of Juiz de Fora, located north of Rio de Janeiro, officials reported that 22 people lost their lives. The floods there destroyed homes and businesses, swept away vehicles, and severely damaged medical centers, leaving widespread destruction in their wake.

As a result of the disaster, a state of emergency was declared, leading to the closure of schools and daycare centers in affected areas.
Speaking on the incident, a spokesperson for Ubá City Hall said: “Families have lost everything.

“Homes, stories, memories: lives were shaken in just a few hours.

“Now, more than ever, our city needs the strength of its people.”

They added: “Teams from the Fire Department, Municipal Guard, and the Municipal Civil Defence Coordination have been working since the early hours of the morning, surveying the flooded locations, working on emergency solutions, and monitoring the affected areas.

“Teams are already working to restore services as quickly as possible.”
