Chaos in India as Elephant Claims the Lives of 22 People

Chaos has erupted in India after a rampaging elephant claimed the lives of 22 people, just 10 days after it reportedly escaped control.

The tragic incidents occurred in India’s Jharkhand state, beginning on New Year’s Day, when the elephant started attacking several villages. One of the most heartbreaking moments was recorded in Babaria village, where a couple and their two children were killed while sleeping in their home.

Since then, the death toll has continued to rise, with additional fatalities confirmed in Hatgamharia, Bada Pasiya, and Lampaisai communities. Residents have been left terrified as the animal moved from village to village, causing destruction and loss of life.

During attempts to stop the elephant, officials reportedly lost control of the situation while trying to capture and tranquilize it. The crisis worsened after the animal was briefly moved to a neighboring area in Odisha, but local authorities there forced it back toward Chaibasa due to safety concerns.

Specialists from other towns were brought in to assist, but efforts to contain the elephant failed. Tragically, one of the experts involved in the operation was fatally injured during the chaos.

Authorities have since intensified their search for the elephant, hoping to prevent further loss of life as fear continues to grip the affected communities.
