62-Year-Old Chinese Woman Goes Viral as She Awaits Her Second Child After Losing Her Only Son

A 62-year-old expectant mother from China’s northeastern Jilin province has captured widespread attention online after her sister shared recent updates about her pregnancy.

The woman is currently expecting her second child — decades after her first pregnancy. Her story has drawn emotional reactions across social media, especially following the loss of her only son last year. Details surrounding her son’s death have not been publicly disclosed.

Just months after the tragic loss, she became pregnant through in-vitro fertilization (IVF), a development that surprised many and sparked conversations about late-age pregnancy.

In a video shared last year, the elderly mother spoke calmly about her pregnancy, saying: “I guess the baby will come to the world ahead of the due date,”

“It likes kicking my belly. I find whenever I eat sweet food, the baby tends to be active,”

In China, medical professionals are not permitted to disclose the gender of unborn babies due to cultural practices that historically favored male children — a situation that previously led to pregnancy terminations.

Speaking further, she added: “Many people told me that since I like eating sweet food these days, the baby I am carrying should be a boy,”

“So it is the return of my son.”

Because of her age, the expectant mother disclosed that she attends medical check-ups more frequently than younger pregnant women. Her sister reportedly accompanies her to all hospital visits to ensure her safety and wellbeing.
