The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a full investigation following an accident involving a Cessna 172 aircraft operated by Skypower Express. The incident occurred around 20:00 local time on Monday, December 16, 2025, at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State.
The aircraft was en route from Kaduna International Airport to Port Harcourt when the crew declared an emergency and diverted to Owerri.
During the approach to runway 17, the aircraft crashed in the approach area. There were four occupants on board, and fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Airport emergency services promptly responded, secured the scene, and ensured safety measures were in place. There was no post-crash fire, and the runway remained operational, allowing other flights to continue safely.
The NSIB assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
