Actor Gil Gerard Dies at 82

Popular television actor Gil Gerard has passed away at the age of 82.

The sad news was announced by his wife, Janet, in a heartfelt post shared on Facebook. In her message, she revealed that the actor died after a brief battle with an aggressive form of cancer.

She wrote: “Early this morning Gil – my soulmate – lost his fight with a rare and viciously aggressive form of cancer. From the moment when we knew something was wrong to his death this morning was only days. No matter how many years I got to spend with him it would have ever been enough. Hold the ones you have tightly and love them fiercely.”

Before his death, Gil Gerard was widely known for his iconic role in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where he starred as the lead character. The Arkansas-born actor also made a strong mark on daytime television, portraying Dr. Alan Stewart in 303 episodes of The Doctors between 1973 and 1976.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century followed the story of a 20th-century astronaut who awakens after 500 years of suspended animation to become a hero in the future. The series aired on NBC for two seasons from 1979 to 1981, with Gerard appearing in all 32 episodes.
