You Don’t Expect Tinubu to Go and Put on Khaki and Fight – Pastor Adeboye Speaks Over Insecurity in Nigeria

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against criticism over the country’s security challenges.

Speaking at the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, Adeboye said he does not agree with those who accuse the President of failing to do enough to tackle insecurity.

He said:

“I need to make this one clear: I don’t support those who are accusing the president of not doing enough. When the commander-in-chief has given instructions to his subordinates, he has done his bit. You don’t expect him to go and put on khaki and fight.”

“When my friend Trump gives instructions to go and bomb anywhere, he doesn’t leave the White House. He has done his bit. ‘I hereby command, bomb Iran’, and then he goes to his bedroom and sleeps. The rest is left to the supporters.”

Adeboye, however, acknowledged that insecurity has worsened across the country, saying terrorist attacks and kidnappings have spread beyond northern Nigeria into the southern region.

He said:

“Things have gone far, far worse… so bad that they are asking: ‘Where is your God?’ That is how bad it is. The terrorism, kidnapping, and so on that were in the north are now even at my doorstep. They have come all the way down to the south. And, of course, the sponsors — they are all known, and they are still moving about freely.”

The cleric called on the government to take decisive action against those funding criminal activities, saying he had advised that security agencies be given a clear deadline to address the situation.

He added:

“I told him to tell all the military boys, all the army, navy and air force: ‘You have 90 days. Wipe out this rubbish or resign.’ And then take care of the supporters, the sponsors.”

“You know them,”

“Some of them are businessmen. Some of them are politicians. Go after them. Because if you do not deal with those who are supplying these people with arms and ammunition — and most of the time, when they go about, they go about on motorcycles — if we don’t go after the sponsors, the problem will continue.”

Man Wrongfully Accused of Stealing ₦2 Million Seen in New Photos After Assault

Ekene Agala, the man who was allegedly beaten by a mob and security operatives over claims that he stole ₦2 million, has resurfaced in a recent photo shared by human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu.

The development comes days after a video of Ekene went viral, showing him insisting on his innocence during the incident, which reportedly occurred on June 28, 2026.

In a post shared on his Facebook page, Harrison alleged that the woman who accused Ekene of stealing the money has now changed her account of what happened.

According to Harrison, the woman had initially claimed there was CCTV footage showing Ekene taking the money. However, she later stated that there was no CCTV footage and that the allegation was based on what a young child reportedly told her.

Reacting to the development, Harrison wrote:

“What happened to Ekene Agala is a painful reminder of why we must never rush to judgment,”

“A woman initially accused Ekene of stealing N2 million and claimed there was CCTV footage to prove it. Based on that allegation, estate security and others nearly lynched him through jungle justice.

“Today, the story has changed. The same woman now says there is no CCTV footage and claims it was a little child who allegedly saw Ekene taking the money.

“This raises serious questions and reinforces an important lesson. Never follow the crowd without knowing the facts.

“Tomorrow, we will begin the process of ensuring that Ekene Agala gets justice. We thank God he survived the mob attack.

“Let this serve as a reminder to everyone, don’t be quick to judge based on viral videos, rumours, or public sentiment. The truth often lies beyond the first story you hear.

“Emerging facts now point to Ekene’s innocence in the allegation against him. We will find out.”

As part of the commemorations, some male participants performed acts of self-flagellation, cutting their scalps with sharp blades and striking themselves with chains fitted with blades in a ritual intended to express grief and remembrance of Imam Hussein’s death.

Many participants were seen wearing white garments that became stained with blood during the rituals.

The largest gatherings took place in the holy city of Karbala, the site of the historic battle where Imam Hussein was killed. The city is home to the Imam Hussein Shrine and attracts millions of pilgrims each year during Ashura.

Similar processions were also held in Baghdad, where thousands of worshippers marched through the streets. Among them were participants who carried out the traditional self-flagellation rituals using blades and razors.
