Nigerian Man Mourns His Wife Who Died Alongside Their Baby Days After Childbirth

A Nigerian man identified as Udeme Etuk Emmanuel has been left heartbroken after losing his 23-year-old pregnant wife, Mary, barely a year after their wedding.

In a touching post shared on social media, Udeme revealed that they got married on November 2nd, 2024, and were looking forward to raising their first child together. Sadly, Mary died a few days after childbirth, and their newborn baby also passed away shortly after.

Her burial took place on November 6th, 2025, at Okoyo Community, where family and friends gathered to pay their final respects.

“Our one year anniversary wasn’t supposed to be like this. But there you are, laying still not responding to all your sweet names. Afia Mma, this pain is enormous and it’s difficult to be sane… But a small cry here and there will ease the hurting. I lack words, it’s empty, it’s blurry and it’s tiring. Please take care of our Beautiful Daughter, she slept on with you. On this day and always, I celebrate the love that d3ath could never take away,” Emmanuel wrote.
