Kenyan Man Who Accused Hospital of Swapping His Baby Rejoices After DNA Test Clears Doubt

A Kenyan man, identified as George Mwaura, who previously accused a hospital of swapping his newborn from a boy to a girl, is now celebrating after a DNA test confirmed that the baby is indeed his biological child.

It all began when George’s wife, Esther, gave birth to their baby at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital. Upon visiting, George was shocked to see that the baby was a girl, despite his wife having earlier assured him she was expecting a boy.

Believing there had been a mix-up, George accused the hospital of child swapping and threatened to take legal action.

Speaking to Tuko.co.ke, Esther His wife Explained:”Immediately after delivery, a health worker verbally informed me that I had given birth to a baby boy. Still weak and dazed after labour, I passed the same information to my husband without verifying it,”

Although George eventually got clarification after a DNA test confirmed that he is indeed the biological father of the baby girl, the situation had already caused significant confusion.

He explained that the misunderstanding began when the baby was mistakenly tagged with a blue wristband — typically used for male babies — instead of the purple one used for girls.

Still uncertain, the couple returned to the hospital on November 5th to undergo another DNA test, which once again confirmed that they are the child’s parents.
Happy Mwaura said: “We are going to raise the baby with all the happiness, as we have established that he is indeed ours,” said Mwaura.

Speaking about the incident, Peninah Mwikali, the head of the facility, said: “This is the first case that has occurred at our hospital for a long time, and so we took it with the seriousness it deserves. We have taken measures to ensure that such incidents do not occur again,”
