Couple Cries Out After Being Scammed of $2,500 by Fraudster Pretending to Be Amazon Tech Support

A Marion County couple, Carol and Robert Stille, are speaking out after falling victim to a $2,500 scam while trying to fix their Amazon Alexa device.

The couple said they believed they were contacting Amazon technical support for help after their Alexa system suddenly stopped working — but instead, they were speaking with a scammer who identified himself as “John.”

In an interview with FOX, Carol and Robert explained that the scammer pretended to be an Amazon representative and claimed he needed a valid credit card to verify their account because theirs had allegedly “expired.”

Trusting the caller, the Stilles provided their details — only to later realize that the scammer had gained remote access to their personal devices. Soon after, they discovered unauthorized transactions totaling $2,500.
Speaking about the heartbreaking experience, Carol Stille said: “We let him look at it. Then he wanted to look at our television to show us where we could get these free movies that we were entitled to,”
