Congo Military Court Sentences Ex-President Joseph Kabila to Death
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s military court has sentenced former President Joseph Kabila to death in absentia on charges of treason, murder, sexual assault, insurrection, and torture.
Kabila, who succeeded his father, Laurent-Désiré Kabila, after his assassination in 2001, rose to power at the age of 29 and went on to rule DR Congo for nearly two decades before stepping down in 2019.
Delivering the judgment in Kinshasa, Lieutenant-General Joseph Mutombo Katalayi, who presided over the tribunal, declared:
“In applying Article 7 of the Military Penal Code, it imposes a single sentence, namely the most severe one, which is the death penalty.”
The court also ordered Kabila to pay $33 billion (€28 billion) in damages to the Congolese state and to the eastern provinces of North and South Kivu.
The former leader was accused of backing the Rwanda-supported M23 rebels, with current President Felix Tshisekedi alleging that Kabila was the “mastermind” behind the armed group destabilizing the east of the country.
Kabila, who has spent the last two years in self-imposed exile, reappeared unexpectedly in eastern Congo earlier this year. He has strongly denied the accusations, dismissing Tshisekedi’s administration as a “dictatorship.”

Tracey, who was at the centre of a viral video showing her confronting the teenager, pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault during her court proceedings.

She was sentenced to one day in jail, but was not required to serve any additional time behind bars.
The incident took place on July 3 at Point Pleasant Beach, where Tracey reportedly approached a group of teenagers wearing patriotic clothing featuring references to Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

According to police, Tracey began filming the teenagers with her phone while confronting them about their clothing.
She then allegedly struck one of the girls around the shoulder before slapping her across the face.
The teenager was reportedly not injured in the incident.
Police later identified Tracey after reviewing surveillance footage from the area. She eventually turned herself in after authorities issued a warrant for her arrest.
Tracey was initially facing several charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, assault, harassment and obstruction.
However, most of the charges were dropped as part of a plea agreement that saw her admit to a single misdemeanor simple assault charge.
Prosecutors said the teenager’s family supported the agreement.
Separate from the criminal case, Tracey has also faced an immigration matter.
A government investigation reportedly determined that she had remained in the United States unlawfully, resulting in an order requiring her to leave the country.

People Run for Their Lives as Powerful 7.4-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Colombia
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M
Videos circulating online showed frightened residents rushing away from buildings as the ground trembled, with some structures visibly affected by the powerful shaking.

The tremor struck at about 7:34 a.m. local time, and its effects were felt across several parts of the country.
The earthquake caused significant damage in parts of western Colombia, with officials reporting collapsed buildings, injuries and people trapped beneath debris.
In the regional capital Quibdó, authorities reported injuries and severe structural damage as emergency teams began assessing the situation.

The situation remained fluid as rescue workers searched damaged buildings for survivors.
Later reports indicated that the death toll had risen sharply, with at least 111 people reported killed and 87 injured, while hundreds of buildings were damaged across affected areas. Rescue operations were continuing as authorities worked to determine the full extent of the destruction.
The earthquake was also felt in other Colombian cities, including Cali, Pereira and Manizales, as well as parts of neighbouring countries.
Chocó Governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba Curi warned residents about the possibility of further seismic activity as emergency authorities assessed the damage.
In a statement shared on X, she said:
“We have just experienced a severe seismic event in the department of Chocó. We are concerned about aftershocks.
“Although the epicenter was in San José del Palmar, in the capital Quibdó there are injuries and severe damage to buildings. We are already conducting the damage assessment to issue the first official report.”
Authorities continued to urge caution as emergency personnel assessed buildings and worked to reach people who may have been trapped.
The disaster comes less than two months after a major earthquake sequence struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026.
The U.S. Geological Survey recorded two powerful earthquakes in northern Venezuela that day, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude, with the events causing significant ground movement and damage in the region.
The latest disaster has once again placed parts of northern South America under intense focus as emergency crews in Colombia continue their search-and-rescue operations.

The President Eats Once a Day – Zacch Adedeji speaks about Tinubu Lifestyle
Follow the Elizabethblog channel on WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDQN5lI1rcbSgriLG2M
Adedeji made the remarks during an interview with Channels Television, where journalist Seun Okinbaloye questioned him about the lifestyles of political office holders and whether they reflect the economic realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.
According to the revenue service chairman, Tinubu does not routinely use vehicles to move between his residence and office.
He said:
“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy. Before he became president, what is he riding?
“How much is an Escalade that the president of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country.
“What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working. If you go there now, you will see him review one document or the other.
“So what is living large? The president eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?”
