7 Pupils Injured in Benue School Explosion After Playing With IED
At least seven pupils have been injured after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated at a primary school in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to reports, the incident occurred when some children discovered an unidentified object within the school premises and began playing with it, unaware it was an explosive device.
The blast left the pupils with varying degrees of injuries, and they were quickly rushed to St. Anthony Hospital, Zaki-Biam, where medical staff confirmed they are receiving treatment and responding well.
Following the incident, the Officer-in-Charge of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit was deployed to sweep the school compound for any additional explosive devices and determine the exact nature of the object that detonated.
The Benue State Police Command also confirmed that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has launched a probe into the matter to establish how the device got into the school premises and to prevent future occurrences.
