A Puerto Rican mother and her teenage daughter have been arrested in connection with the k*lling of 16-year-old Gabriela Nicole Pratts Rosario.

Authorities identified the suspects as Elvia Cabrera Rivera, 40, and her 17-year-old daughter, Anthonieshka Avilés Cabrera, who was once a friend of Gabriela.
The tragic incident happened in the early hours of August 11 during end-of-summer festivities in the town of Aibonito. Reports revealed that the violence began when Gabriela’s older sister was attacked after trying to defend her sibling, not realizing that Elvia and Anthonieshka were armed.
Gabriela was rushed to the hospital but was sadly pronounced dead. Her sister was critically injured and later transferred to a medical center in San Juan.

Following their arrest, both Elvia and her daughter were charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses. They were placed in separate facilities and denied involvement in the attack. However, Puerto Rico’s Justice Secretary, Lourdes Gómez Torres, stated that the two acted “in common agreement.”
Because of the seriousness of the crime, Anthonieshka will be tried as an adult. If convicted, both she and her mother face life sentences. Their case was adjourned on August 25, 2025.

Gabriela, who would have turned 17 just a day after her death, had dreams of studying psychology and was preparing to start her final year of high school.
Her devastated mother paid tribute to her saying “Of all the angels in heaven, one of them is my eternal love – my daughter.
“Baby, I miss you so much.
“I wish it had happened to me and not to you.
“You were just beginning to live, my Lela.
“I feel an emptiness in my heart that I cannot bear.
“You left your sister and me all alone.
“My Lela, I always told you not to trust that a ‘friend’ can be nothing but a burden – and now they took your life in the worst way.
“I swear that justice will come.
“I love you, and I will love you all my life, my eternal love.”
