Zoo Worker at Jerusalem Biblical Zoo Di£s After Leopard Escapes Its Cage and Attacks Him

Tragedy struck at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo after a zoo worker, Uriel Nuri, lost his life following an attack by a leopard that escaped from its enclosure.

The incident occurred on Friday morning during a behind-the-scenes tour for visitors. Nuri, who was the head of the zoo’s carnivores team, sustained severe injuries from the attack.

Despite efforts to save him, Hadassah Medical Center confirmed that after prolonged resuscitation attempts, he was sadly pronounced dead.

“The hospital staff is accompanying his family at this difficult time and shares in their grief.”

On the website of the zoo, it was shared that they exhibits big cats including tigers and lions and cheetahs.

In an official statement, the zoo said it is cooperating with the police to investigate how the leopard managed to escape its cage, and vowed to review its safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.

Releasing a statement, the zoo said: “The tragic event occurred this morning, when during a routine activity to prepare the leopards for enrichment, which took place as part of a behind-the-scenes tour for visitors to the zoo, a leopard managed to escape from the leopard enclosure into the inner courtyard and attack one of the zoo employees who was preparing the activity.

“At no point was there any physical danger to the visitors, who stood protected behind a glass window.
