Former Chinese Vice-Chairman Wang Yong Sentenced to D£ath for $37.8M Bribery Scandal

A Chinese politician, Wang Yong, former Vice-Chairman of the government of the Xizang Autonomous Region, has been sentenced to d@ath with a two-year reprieve for accepting bribes totaling 271 million yuan (approximately $37.8 million).

The verdict was delivered by the Chenzhou Intermediate People’s Court, where Wang was found guilty of bribery and abuse of power, with the court describing his actions as “extremely severe” and damaging to public assets and national interests.

Between 2007 and 2023, Wang exploited his various influential positions, including: Director of the Policy and Regulations Department at the Civil Aviation Administration of China Southwest Regional Administration

2. Party Secretary and Director of the Civil Aviation Safety Supervision Bureau in Guizhou Province

3. Party Secretary and Chairman of the Guizhou Airport Group

In these roles, he was found guilty of leveraging his authority to secure project contracts and other benefits for organizations and individuals in exchange for massive bribes.

During the trial, which was publicly held on May 15 with over 40 attendees, prosecutors presented substantial evidence against Wang. He confessed, expressed remorse, and agreed to return all illicit gains, which have since been recovered.
