22-Year-Old Indian Woman Dies by Su-c-de Three Days After Marriage Due to Dowry Harassment by Husband and In-Laws

A 22-year-old Indian woman named Lokeshwari tragically died by su-c-de just three days after her wedding, reportedly due to harassment by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands.

According to reports, Lokeshwari was married on June 27, 2025. On June 30, after visiting her parental home with her husband, she died by su-c-de in the bathroom following an argument over additional dowry requests.

Her father, Gajendran, filed a complaint at the Ponneri police station, alleging that Lokeshwari’s husband had pressured her to ask her family for more dowry — including additional gold sovereigns, an air conditioner, and other household items. Gajendran explained that although the family had promised five sovereigns of gold (one sovereign equals roughly 8 grams), they were only able to provide four at the time of the wedding. He said the husband’s family repeatedly demanded the remaining gold, which led to tensions and ultimately, her death.

The groom’s family has denied all allegations, insisting they never made any dowry-related demands.

The Avadi police confirmed to India Today that a case has been registered and steps are being taken to arrest the husband.
