Nigerian Lawyer Salis Owolabi Makes History as First Nigerian in Space

Salis Owolabi, a US-based Nigerian lawyer, has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first Nigerian national to journey into space. This historic achievement unfolded as Owolabi was one of six private astronauts aboard Blue Origin’s NS-33 suborbital mission. The mission successfully launched from the arid plains of West Texas on June 29, 2025.

Owolabi, a native of Ikorodu in Lagos, Nigeria, described his extraordinary accomplishment as a profound “convergence of science and spirit.” He shared his perspective on the mission, stating, “This mission is more than just a trip into space, it’s a spiritual journey, a call to inspire future generations.”
