Hiker Found Dead After Falling Into 1,968 feet Indonesian Volcano

Tragedy struck in Indonesia as a Brazilian hiker, Juliana Marins, was found dead four days after falling from the ridge of Mount Rinjani, a towering active volcano on the island of Lombok.

The 31-year-old began the hike on Saturday alongside a local guide and five other foreign climbers, aiming to summit the 12,224-foot volcano.

However, during the ascent, Marins tragically slipped and fell into the crater, plunging approximately 1,968 feet (600 meters).

Following her disappearance, a massive search operation was launched by Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency. After days of battling rough terrain and difficult weather conditions, her body was finally located using a thermal drone near the edge of the crater.

“No signs of life were found,” said Mohammad Syafii, head of Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency.
