In an emotional interview with Afrimax, Ruth recounted how she met her husband in 2023 while she was living independently and running a small but successful business. At the time, she lived alone and was earning a living through her bedsitter rental business.
According to Ruth, things took a dark turn shortly after they met. She said the man initially reached out by sending his workers to invite her to meet him, and from there, their relationship began. However, once married, his behavior changed drastically.
Narrating the ordeal, she said: “So this man the time i met him he sent his workers to me asking me to go meet him and off course i didn’t want but he keep sending them to me everytime when i passed by or when i went to the gym since used to pass back at this workplace where i used to get a car to go to the gym his workplace was just nearby so anytime i used to pass by he would send his friends to come talk to me
“So this one day when i was just about to get into the car one of his friends his worer asked me to go and listen to what his boss has to say I hesitated by saying that I was just around but the worker insisted that I had to go so when i went, he told me that My name is Basaam and what’s your name? I told him my name he asked for my number and i gave him and he gave me his too and he told me that he would call me later because i told him that i was in hurry to go for workouts he said that he would call me later and i responded by saying that it was okay and i went
“So the following day he called me early when i was still sleeping and he told me that he wanted to talk to me about something and i asked him what it was and he said “Can you make time and come” I had to ask my friend to look after my work so that I could go meet him, so when i went he told me his name is Basaam that he is looking for helper as he had stayed for one year that he is looking for something who is serious for marriage …. personally i was staying alone and i was not ready to be in any relationship he responded by saying that he is giving me time to think about his proposal and i agreed so everyday he would call to check up on me to know of how i am doing and all of a sudden i started hanging out with him ………. I even shared the story to my friend by telling that i had met someone and he seemed serious about marriage being in Nairobi with no one around i needed someone who would be a motivation on what is good and bad and according to he was treating me i never doubted him he would take me out and do everything for me well after 4 months of hanging out we moved in together but i still had my job i didn’t move in with my items as i had told my friend to instead stay at my place as she looks after my job as i never wanted to close my business because i had just met him
“After sometime i realized that i am paying my house rent and business rent yet i am not living there and i felt that i couldn’t ask him he then told me “Mama” this thing we are doing I don’t think it is right and i had to ask why and he said imagine you are paying rent and you are not living there and i am a good person to you I just want you to be my wife forever you cannot be sending money for that house and you are not staying there so i told my friend to still stay at my house and now pay the rent and still continue with looking after my job ……. one day my friend came and told me that she doesn’t believe this man however much it was my decision after sometime together with him, I became pregnant and he told me that in his culture when one marries they do not allow their women to work and the man do everything for their women, we even do not allow them to go look for money I had to ask him what he meant, he said that i should shut down my business because i am now pregnant and that i am his wife too before then my friend decided to move out of the house with my items as my rent was too much for her so she opted for a affordable rent amount I informed Basaam that my friend would keep the items till the day i would want them back he too asked about my business I told him that my friend is still looking after it he said how do you entrust your friend with your business I just told him of course i trusted her that’s why, he still insisted that i close down the business because he will do everything for me since it has started become a big issue him, I indeed closed the business and brought the items to our house i then started selling my items online on tiktok little did i know that he never liked my approach sometimes he would find me marketing my items and he would be like what are you doing online right now ?? Who are these people you are talking too if i ask him if i was doing anything wrong, he would keep quite
How he banned her from talking to people, she said: “He barred me from talking to anyone and that i could only talk to my mom he said that no one should call me even if it was my brother because he was also a man even towards my delivery he was still supportive on the day i was 9 months due, he had purposed not to go to work but surprisingly he all of a sudden wanted to go to work at 10am which was unlike him on asking him he said that his workers doesn’t have brains an that he should only be present to control everything but again this whole time he was charging his phone and online too i then woke up to buy milk and as i stepping out i felt some slight pain but then i still made it to the shop back since i was in pain he offered to make the tea for us immediately after tea, i was in too much pain and he said he would call his friend to come and check on me shortly after the friend came, she to has a wine and spirit shop next to his, the friend said that i was in labour that we should go to hospital since my phone was not working, she booked for an uber with her phone then we proceeded to a hospital in Dandora upon reaching the hospital i gave birth in less than 30minutes I later called him to inform him that i had given birth and he was so happy and he quickly brought the items i needed while at the hospital and he went back he didn’t call me even after to at least know how we were fairing not until i did when i was asking my charger as my phone was going off the following morning the doctors discharged me and asked me to call my people to come pick me up at around 7pm the baby fever started increasing rapidly and i called to inform him only for him to arrive at 9pm
“This entire time the baby fever was too high that he was lamely suggesting that it was because of the sweater the baby has on I told him that was a new born such can’t be it and that we should urgently take the baby to hospital at around 11pm the baby was not still ok and that i insisted that we go to the hospital he mentioned that he does not have money for hospital since he had a friend at Bhati hospital in Umoja and suggested that we take the baby there for medication then the bill will be sorted later when he gets the money when the baby was examined the doctors said that we urgently take the baby to Buruburu hospital but he told the doctor that he does not have money the doctors said that we still take the baby then the bill will be looked into later as we were walking out, he said we are not taking the baby to hospital and that we should go home”

During a court hearing on Wednesday, the presiding magistrate ordered that The Victim, Olawale Ogunbadejo be remanded in Kirikiri Prison pending the commencement of his trial, which has been scheduled for June 26, 2025.

A Mexican Navy training ship carrying 277 people capsized after it collided with the Brooklyn Bridge while attempting to pass beneath it. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. and involved the Cuauhtémoc, a well-known naval vessel recognized for its ceremonial displays.
According to reports, the ship experienced a mechanical failure, causing the captain to lose control as strong river currents swept the vessel off course. With a 147-foot mast, the ship struck the bridge before capsizing, triggering panic and chaos on the scene.
Footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) showed stunned bystanders gathering along the waterfront as they watched the terrifying scene unfold.
Two witnesses, Lily Katz and Sydney Neidell, spoke to the Associated Press, recounting what they saw while watching the sunset.
‘We saw someone dangling, and I couldn’t tell if it was just blurry or my eyes, and we were able to zoom in on our phone and there was someone dangling from the harness from the top for like at least like 15 minutes before they were able to rescue them” Katz told the AP
At the time of the crash, several Navy personnel had been standing on the ship’s masts, participating in a traditional naval ceremony called “manning the yards.” This long-standing maritime custom is often performed as a gesture of honor when entering a port.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, diving into the water to rescue those thrown overboard. Eyewitnesses reported seeing bloodied cadets being pulled from the river and quickly loaded into ambulances for medical treatment.
