According to Need to Know, the man, identified by the surname Wu, had planned a wedding at a local hotel in Bijie, southern China, scheduled for April 19, 2025.
The invitation, which quickly went viral, showed Wu in a black suit standing between two women dressed in white wedding gowns.

This unusual invite raised eyebrows, especially as polygamy is illegal in China. Authorities launched a probe following public concern, and the hotel hosting the event canceled the wedding, citing that monogamy is not only the legal standard but also a key part of the country’s moral expectations.
The two women featured in the invitation were later identified as Ms. Chen, Wu’s fiancée, and Ms. Zhou—his ex-wife. It was reported that Ms. Zhou had maintained a friendly relationship with Wu and, upon learning about his upcoming wedding, asked to be included in the ceremony.
However, after further investigation, authorities discovered the double-bride wedding was not real. Mr. Wu was only legally marrying his new fiancée
